Yesterday, close to my home field, after I had given up( 2500 ft cloudbase) I noticed lennie like clouds lining up across the light NW wind. I have flown thermal wave often in the past, but nothing in the last ten years. Missed this one but probably too weak to use. These systems can difficult to...

Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems for Trailers by AS
Hi - all in Gliderland, I am picking up the subject of the tire pressure monitoring systems for trailers from another, unrelated thread. I would like to hear more from others who have installed one on trailers. One unit was mentioned which looks very sophisticated. Has anyone used this one, which...

CAI Model 20 to OLC? by Steve Leonard[_2_]
Yeah, I know I should "buy a new logger". But, I fly old sailplanes. :-) Anyone had success uploading a file from a Model 20 and getting a valid score? I am 0 for 3. The first two, I wrote off to too few satellites a couple of times during the flight. Didn't have that issue today, but still a...

New House Thermal by [email protected]
The Treasure Coast Soaring Club will soon have a new house thermal. Florida Power And Light is in the process of building a 400 acre solar power plant within 3/4 mile from our airport. Heat from this type of farm should make for a great house thermal. Anyone out there with experience flying over...

Ely by Eric Greenwell[_4_]
Dan Mockler wrote on 7/9/2017 8:31 AM: I just returned from a week in Ely and I wanted to report on the weather, facilities and such. The weather while not epic was phenomenal. I managed 5000 kilometer in seven days, two of which were considered 1\2 days. The towplane was...

Anyone get hassled for exceeding max car and trailer length? by Gordon Boettger
Looking at getting an RV (25' length). Combine that with a doubleseater glider trailer and I'm at 60'. I'm in NV, so I'm good, but going into OR I would be 10" over the legal limit. Anyone out there run into any issues with the "fuzz" for exceeding combined vehicle and trailer length? Thanks

Does anyone know how to change the time on an Oudie 2? My start time is way off and I would like to correct it. I know how to do almost everything except that, so this is very odd..

Figure 8 VS circling by Jonathan St. Cloud
Virtually all my glider time and heck fixed wing and rotary wing flight time has been in the mountains of the West. Was looking at multiple traces of a a well known pilot that anytime he was below the mountain tops he used figure 8's waiting to circle until he was several hundred feet higher than...

Air Sailing Regional Contest by Ron Gleason
Just returned from the Air Sailing Regional Contest and wanted to say THANKS to all that made it happen. First time at Air Sailing and the facilities, people etc are fantastic and should be on everyone's list of place to fly and visit. The soaring conditions were challenging along with dealing...

PowerFlarm “Own Transponder Detection" Rate by John Carlyle
I’ve been trying to get the rate of "own transponder detection" by my PowerFlarm Core as low as possible. Nothing I’ve done has improved it beyond roughly every 10 minutes, on average. Sometimes it’s much worse, showing up almost constantly. Turning off PCAS isn’t really an option for me,...

Soaring and sailing: anyone successfully divide their time betweenthe two, or better pursued as different life phases? by Paul Villinski
I know there are plenty of guys who come into soaring after years of sailing. Wings horizontal in one and vertical in the other.... Is there anyone managing to do both to their satisfaction, particularly non-retired types? Or is it madness to try to be a fairly serious, recreational soaring pilot...

Hi, I recently acquired from an estate a number of sailplane winch towline recovery chutes. Photos: http://imageevent.com/aero92/glidertowlinechutes The sample I inspected is ~88" along the major axis. Construction seems excellent and durable. I do not know the manufacturer. These have all been...

Fun Cobra trailer conversions? by [email protected]
During the Nephi OLC event, we set up chairs inside the open Cobra trailer. It was very comfortable to sit underneath the opened canopy, protected from the burning sun. Someone mentioned that pilots have converted their trailers in numerous ways. For example, one report told of cots and tables and...
