Cell phones in the air by Roger Worden
I've seen a couple of references to someone not wanting us to use cell phones while gliding. I haven't seen the reason... what's the rationale?

Soaring Centerfold by [email protected]
I just got my latest Soaring magazine and really liked the new centerfold shot. I hope they do this every month. Reminds me of the great shots by George Uveges and Alex Aldott in the 70's soaring magazines. Good Work Dennis and to the art director! Willie

AOPA urges allowing cell phone use in general aviation by Eric Greenwell
One of the reasons I'm an AOPA member, even though I don't fly airplanes, is they sometimes do good things. This is from their site (www.aopa.org), on the Home page: General aviation pilots should be able to use cell phones in the cockpit while they're airborne. And they should be able to do...

1800km Sierra Wave XC Flight Today by Kemp
Today Gordon Boettger flew his Kestrel on a 3TP flight of about 1800km out of Minden, Nevada. A sunrise takeoff lead to the first turn near Chilcoot, then South to near Inyokern, back North to Susanville, then down to Palmdale. This flight handily beats my flight of last year on a similar route. ...

Hydration/Dehydration/'Overhydration'. by Stan Kochanowski
Not a bit of it ! That's acclimatisation for you. However - even acclimatised individuals need to watch correct hydration - and rapid transits from high to low atmospheric pressure. There's a great deal we 'experts' do not understand about the body - although we often think that we do.

Dehydration by [email protected]
There is a tendency for us to put dehydration into an all or nothing category. We say things like, "Yeah, he was dehydrated and crashed, remember to drink more water, next time". Dehydration comes in degrees from slightly dehydrated, all the way up to loss of consciousness. By the 10th day of a...

Hydration/Dehydration/'Overhydration'. by Stan Kochanowski
Mike, I am not aware of this theory - which does not, in the least, mean that it does not exist - especially now that I am no longer current in Medicine. However, sodium is, predominantly, an extracellular ion (potassium is predominantly intracellular) - which makes it relatively easy to lower...

Wrong Vario!!! by Mike Hostage
I have to apologize, I was describing the bezel on a PZL mech vario, not the Winter! This one appears to have a groved edge that sits under the face plate that holds the glass front.

Hydration/Dehydration/'Overhydration'. by Stan Kochanowski
Gentlefolk, You need to be careful with rehydration - especially in tropical climes. Your body loses salt as well as water when you sweat and if you replace only with pure water, eventually you will develop 'water intoxication'. This is, actually, not easy to achieve in a few hours

AOPA Lobbies for Cellphones in Cockpits (USA) by Mike the Strike
http://www.aopa.org/whatsnew/newsitems/2005/050328cell.html The AOPA request points out that cellphones are a useful resource for aviation information and don't appear to affect general aviation instrumentation (presumably including those in gliders). No US cellphone service providers prohibits...

noise pollution from private planes by [email protected]
I live in a relatively quiet city, until recently. A flight school opened up across the bay from me, and all day long, all I can hear outside are these private plane motor noises. It is really awful. It is like having a gas powered lawn mower above me all day long. As one plane leaves, another one...
