31 things that are really true about Fighter pilots by
Big John
31 things that are really true.
About Fighter Pilots
1. As an aviator in flight you can do anything you want... As long as
it's right... And we'll let you know if it's right after you get down.
2. You can't fly forever without getting killed.
3. As a fighter pilot only two bad things can happen to...

Weight and balance question. by
Wayne
My plane, a 175B has an O-360 engine and a constant speed prop. I had
the plane weighed and and about to begin the calculations of finding the CG,
and it's measurement behind the datum. I'm a bit rusty there and would
appreciate what ever help you could do. Here is what I have.
While plane is...

neat thing i saw today by
Tune2828
While biking through the park today a few hundred canadian geese were flying
around the half frozen lakes. These guys are big, noisy, and clunky birds -
the aviary equivalent of a 747.
I stopped and focused on one as it was decending to the ground - it's body was
slightly nose low, wings spread,...

New Plastic Certificates... by
Ekim
My bionic eye isn't working well lately and I haven't owned a
magnifying glass since I was 10. On the new plastic certificates,
there appears to be microscopic writing along the Wright bros collars
and along the edge of the plane wings. Is anyone able to make out the
text?
Does it say something...

Mammoth Lakes, CA tips? by
K. Ari Krupnikov
I'm planning to fly a 182 from SF Bay (RHV) to Mammoth Lakes for the
long weekend. Any tips from people who've been there? I seem to
remember there was someone in this group flying out of Mono Lake.
Also, I've got room in the plane, so if anyone cares to join, let me
know (so far, I'm going solo,...

licence under part 61? If so can you tell me where to find it in the FAR's?
Thanks in advance,

Pirep Dayton OH by
Jeff Franks
Went to the USAF Museum this past weekend in Dayton. GREAT place. LOTS of
aviation history in that place. Especially, the X planes and such. Also
has a "Presidential" hanger with most of the past Air Force One's.
(Columbine III, Independence, SAM 26000, etc).
Even walked into one hanger to see...

Becoming CFI Looking for more responses by
Chris
I'm wondering if an instrument rating is a required to be a CFI for aircraft
(not CFII) just CFI VFR only. The regulation is alittle unclear to me states
"An instrument rating OR privileges on that person's pilot certificate that
are appropriate to the flight instructors rating saught." The OR is...

Flight Simulator for Real Pilots by
Charles Talleyrand
Does anyone here use Microsoft Flight Simulator to help them become a
better pilot? I already know it can be used for fun, but does anyone
use it to help them on their IFR landings, or to become familiar with
their Garmin 430, or what not?
Basically, anyone have any Microfost Flight Simulator...

Route Maps by
NJT916
Does anyone know a good website with a flight planner that actually shows a
map? I have found some that show the VOR's etc etc, but am looking for one
with an actual map (with landmarks).
Thanks in advance.

Va: maneuvering speed ad nauseam by
Koopas Ly
After the reading the Va threads of my past questions, I found a
wonderful way to confuse myself. I notice that I've become quite good
at confusing myself and making things complicated. To give myself
some credit, I did search old messages but found no resolution. So
here we go...

Angle of climb at Vx and glide angle when "overweight": five questions by
Koopas Ly
Happy Thanksgiving to ya'll,
This is related to my previous "overweight" post. I want to know if
you agree with the following reasoning:
Context: you take off over your maximum gross weight, and wonder how
your climb speeds and performance are affected.
Vy: The AOA corresponding to the best...

Concorde comes home to TRA by
Paul Sengupta
Did you fly? Did you see it? I went to LHR to see it take off. A sad day.
Got it on my camcorder as it flew over my head.
I then went flying. One guy at LHR went straight to Bristol to see it land!
I thought 1.5 hours LHR to Bristol was pushing it a bit, roadworks on the
M4 and everything!...

How many hours flown this year by
Jeff
How many hours have you all racked up this year?
For me, this year looks like it will be about 210 hours for the year and
only about 4 hours of it I was able to log as actual instrument. Most of
my flying was to airports 200 nm or further from my home base with the
farthest trip being 1445 nm one...

Sinus problems at altitude by
Jeremy Lew
The last couple of flights where I have gone above 7000 ft, I have
experienced this strange physiological effect:

had gotten a shot of novocaine. It stays that way until I start descending.
This happened to me once on an...
