Honeywell KFC-225 autopilot - what could cause this failure? by Paul Sengupta
"Peter" wrote in message ... In the two years from new I have had perhaps a dozen failures. It's not someone leavnig their phone on in flight is it? That's been attributed to APs going a bit funny on more than one...

Of clocks and learning curves... by Jay Honeck
So I picked up this nifty Davtron digital electric clock/timer at Sun N Fun. It's exactly the same model I had in my Warrior (Model 800), and I found a good price for it. (Roughly 4 times what it's really worth -- a bargain in aviation!) Our wind-up clock had become sporadic in cold weather, and...

June 18,2004 Welcome to the 2nd Annual National Cherokee Flyin and Convention. Thanks for spending your weekend with us to be among those who fly and love Cherokees. The weekend is full of things to do both at the event and around the city of Osage Beach. Tan-Tar-A is a world-class resort with...

Honeywell KFC-225 autopilot - what could cause this failure? by Joerg
Hi Peter, The mpeg didn't play for me but just a few thoughts: Since they say they couldn't reproduce it on the ground, could this be a noise issue? Possible sources would be the radio, a transponder transmission, engine ignition, maybe a motor driven trim, fuel equalizer pump if you have one....

Club rules: ownership vs. scheduling rights by Andrew Gideon
I posted here recently that the club to which I belong in Northern NJ: http://flyingclub.org has some memberships available. Through an odd chain of reasoning (and searching the 'net for comparable clubs), I came upon what I found to be an interesting thought. But is it "good" interesting or...

Archer high oil temp by Mike Noel
Now that summer has come to Arizona, my oil temp is running about 2/3 of the way between 180 and red line. My mechanic checked the oil cooler bypass valve and said it was OK, so I had decided to send in the oil cooler for cleaning and service. Checking the engine log for the last time work...

Replacement AW certificate by PaulH
The airworthiness certificate has disappeared from my airplane. How do I get a replacement? FAA.gov give instructions for lost registration but not for airworthiness.

A Cheap and Dirty Transponder Tool by John P
A friend had a problem with his transponder. It didn't seat all the way in the rack and would not connect with the coax(AT150). I started thinking.....(I know) Does anyone out there know of a way to make a simple transponder field unit that will transmit the necessary pulses( 3, I think) at...

Hartzelll 3 blade prop by Matt Whiting
Anyone here converted an Arrow 180 to a three-blade prop? My flying club recently converted its Arrow when the two-blade prop was found to be shot during its overhaul. The three-blade was cheaper than a two-blade, which seems odd to me still, so that was the choice. The problem is that it...

Franklyn vs Continental vs Lycoming: which is better? by Malcolm Teas
Gee, how's that for an incendiary topic? grin In my ongoing quest for a plane, I've narrowed down the types I'm looking at. Currently it's down to Stinson, Pacer/Tripacer, Cessna 170, 172, 177, and 180, Maule M4, Musketteer, and Bellanca Cruiseair. Naturally I need to reduce this list a bit...

Any A&Ps on the list? Discussing Cont. A-65 by Michael Horowitz
The following refers to an A-65 engine that had a wooden prop in place, which survived a prop stike unbroken Some terms were used by my mechanic and I'd like to see if my understanding is correct: He said he "dialed-out" the crankshaft and it was out of limits by ..004. He explained that what he...

Interior Spray Paint by Ben Smith
What do you guys use for painting interior plastic? We will be out of annual for a couple weeks 'cause our A&P is busy, so we're going to work in the interior. We'll order various new pieces from Plane Plastics. The parts come black right? We'll have to paint the new pieces, and re-paint the...

Experience transitioning from C-172 to complex aircraft as potential first owned aircraft? by Jack Allison
Looking for any feedback from folks that had mostly C-172 time (zero complex and/or RG time) then transitioned to a complex airplane when you went to buy. What did you transition to? Was it a good decision/positive experience? What type of insurance requirements did you face in terms of dual...

Insurance: did you know? by Michael Horowitz
Earlier I posted about the 'incident' I had with my airplane, and we were well within the limits of insurance until the engine's 'dial-out' was checked and found to be outside of limits; at that point we anticipate the ins. co. will say it's totaled. WEll, talking to the guy that will break it...

Taylorcraft: Potential project available by Michael Horowitz
Folks - I had an 'incident' with my T'craft last month. We've been totaling up the costs and up until yesterday things looked good, then we took what the A&P called a "dial-out' reading on the engine and it is out of limits by .004. I don't know if that was there when I bought the a/c or was due...

Oil for a new engine? by Bob Martin
A friend of mine just got a new Continental engine for his Cessna (182RG I think, but don't those have struts? This one doesn't, but it isn't a Cardinal... I don't know my Cessnas too well... anyways). He says the factory had it sent with some expensive brand of 5W-30 (or was 5W-15? something...

Door seal?? by Frode Berg
Hi! Our 68 Arrow is not what you would call airtight on the door. Is there a part available to seal it better? Where can I find it? It seems like air is leaking in at the lower back end of the door. Will this also help lowerr the noise in the cabin?

Paint for interior details by Frode Berg
Hi! We have just got a factory overhauled engine, as well as new leather on our interior of our Arrow 68, and I have a question regarding interior paint. What should we use to paint the plastic details inside the plane? Anything we should not use? It's chipped a bit in places, do we need...

Exterior touch-up by PaulH
I need to touch up the inside door frame on my Arrow, which is now bare after removal of the door seal. Exterior paint is Imron, but wonder what to use for primer and touch-up since Imron is rather nasty to work with.
