Benchtops & Shelving by Jim Weir
I'm about to start building the "furniture" for the hangar. After a lifetime of building "manly" workbenches out of DF 4x4s milled to take 2x4 crossmembers, and having the concomitant rot and deterioration of wood, I'm considering making the framing out of 1¼ PVC Schedule 40 pipe and fittings. ...

Bending brake capacity: 2024-T3 vs. mild steel? by Ihab Awad
Hi folks, Most bending brakes rate their capacity by the thickness of mild steel that can be bent. How does this relate to capacity of 2024-T3 aluminum? So, what aluminum thickness can a 16ga, 20ga, 22ga, ... brake handle? Should I simply multiply by the ratio of the yield strengths? That somehow...

Bending extruded angle by Veeduber
To All: Extrusions of every type are common stuff in airplanes but many homebuilders may not be aware of the fact the extruded shape usually receives additional forming. Extruded angle, for example, may be opened or closed by as much as twenty degrees (depending on the alloy). It is also common...

Bending graphlite rod by [email protected]
The data on the Marske website about the graphlite (TM) rod they use indicates a glass transition temperature of 212F. So I tried heating some with a heat gun to see if I could put a permanent bend in it. No luck. I think maybe it uses a phenolic resin which is thermosetting, rather than...

Bending longeron by J.Kahn
I need to make bends of about 30 degrees in a 3/4 x .049 longeron tube, with a tight bend radius, no more than 3 inches. Can I do the bend hot without wrinkling the tube by free bending or do I need a supporting die of some kind? Anybody have any specific techniques? John

bendix carb question by Dick
My old C-85 has a Bendix Stromberg NA-S3A1, which is leaking for a time after shutdown. Previous owner of the plane had tied off the mixture control so shutdown is by reduced throttle and magnetos turned off. Casual conversations are leaning towards a needle seat or float level problem. Any other...

Bendix drives. by JDupre5762
I have a customer with a pair of factory reman IO 540s with less than 100 hours on them. After landing he will sometimes find the bendix drives on the starters partially and occasionally fully engaged. It does not happen every flight but sometimes every other flight. On at least two occasions...

Bends, kinks and splices by Michael Horowitz
How does an A&P know if he can simply straighten out a longeron or if he's going to have to cut and splice? Obviously if it has a kink in it, it's very weak and would have to be spliced. Is there a reference? In the meanwhile I'll go read AC43.13 and see what they say. .. .. .. .. ..

Best Alodine by Larry Smith
I'm using DuPont's Aluminum Conversion but it doesn't work as well as some I've seen. I want a little better etch. Also it is too expensive. Who has a better source? The old literature speaks of a powder form chromic acid etch. Anybody know where to find it at a good price? Thanks.
