Safelog software/flight log software question by Mark
Anyone using safelog logbook software? http://www.dauntless-soft.com/PRODUCTS/Safelog I'm looking at dauntless' test prep software and they offer quite a discount if you order both at once. The demo version has alot of stuff crippled and only allows 10 entries. Also, on something like this, is...

Piper Colt child seat STC by R. Wubben
I have been toying around with the idea of buying a Colt or a Tri-Pacer (having just foolishly sold my Ercoupe) and ran across an ad for a Colt with a child seat STC. I did a google search, a deja/google group search (on rec.aviation) and looked at the Short wing Piper web site and found nothing...

Dallas-Fort Worth TRACON Management Routinely Misclassified Operational Errors and Deviations as Pilot Errors by Larry Dighera
Are these the same ATC personnel with whom we entrust our lives in IMC? Very tacky. And apparently there's a history of this malfeasance at the Dallas-Fort Worth TRACON. If found guilty, what's it going to take to get these criminals terminated from any and all government service?

Operations over water by Mxsmanic
Where in the regulations can I find the requirements for operations over water in light GA aircraft? I seem to recall there are restrictions and equipment requirements, but I can't find them. -- Transpose mxsmanic and gmail to reach me by e-mail.

The Most Expensive Ironing Boards in the World... by Jay Honeck
We received notification of a Ramada Inn that was selling everything to the bare walls, in preparation for demolition. Although our hotel is unique in many ways, we *all* use blow dryers, lamps, end tables -- and, yes, ironing boards -- so this seemed like a great opportunity to find some real...

Call signs by buttman
When I used to fly Cessna 152's and 172's, I'd always just say "Cessna 12345...". Now that I fly Piper Warriors, I began using "Piper 12345...", but then I realized no one else says just "Piper", they say "Seneca 12345", or "Twin Comanche 12345...", so I began using the callsign "Warrior 12345..."...

Cessna Caravan Twin Conversion? by Dan
I was wondering where I could find any information about a twin engine caravan conversion. I remember seeing this a while back where someone had geared to turbines together to keep a single prop. Does anyone know who did the conversion? Thanks, Dan

Mild Aerobatics by Jay Honeck
During primary training, many moons ago, I was growing frustrated with the sedate nature of our flying, so I asked my flight instructor (Bob -- a guy with 20K hours in every known flying machine) when we were going to get to the "fun stuff"? He didn't know what I was talking about, so I told him...

spoilers vs. ailerons by [email protected]
There are two old Senecas at my airport with the Robertson STOL mod - full span flaps w/spoilers in place of conventional ailerons. I've seen one of them take off with a brutally short roll, and it went up as if on an escalator. My question is, how would one of these land in a stiff x-wind? Is the...

High Blood Pressure by Jay Honeck
Well, I'm officially old. After watching my blood pressure slowly climb over the last three years (strangely, the years we've owned the hotel -- coincidence? :-), my doctor has decided that my ineffective weight loss efforts aren't going to do the trick. Here are the facts: BP is 155/85. ...

....offers endless opportunities for screwing up the experience for them, as I've demonstrated yet again. My business partner's 21-yr. old son has been hinting around for a few years that he wanted to try flying sometime. When he finally asked outright to take a flight, I was happy to agree,...

Antidepressants and 3rd Class Medical by Tim Howell
Last I knew all antidepressants were immediately disqualifying for any class of medical certificate. Is this still the case? If a pilot has a current 3rd class medical, and then begins taking antidepressants, I assume his certificate immediately becomes void. What is the process for re-obtaining...

How do weather services get sky conditions above the surface? by Mxsmanic
It's easy enough to establish measurement stations on the surface to measure wind, temperature, visibility, etc., but what is the normal way for meteorologists to measure these things aloft? Do they depend on PIREPs, or expendable/recoverable probes and balloons, or satellites, or what?
