First Saudi Female Commercial Pilot by
[email protected]
Interesting article talking about the first woman to get a commercial
pilot's license in Saudi Arabia, where women are still forbidden by law
from driving cars. She's been hired by one of the princes to help fly
his fleet of private jets. As one expects it has caused some
controversy.

Prelim NTSB report on the Piper Navajo crash landing by
gregg
Below is the preliminary NTSB report. What I find interesting is that
there's no mention of the tower informing the Navajo pilot he has a
problem. I was doing a T&G right behind the Navajo as he climbed out - I
saw smoke from the RIGHT engine and that's what the tower told him as well.

Life insurance & flying by
Stubby
If you have a family that relies on you for financial security, you need
life insurance. However, many policies do not cover death caused by
small planes. Check your policies!

What happened to the "good samaritian" law? by
Jimmy B.
A month or two ago AOPA had a article about a "good samaritan" bill that
would help protect pilots who fly for charity. AOPA asked the members
to write to their congress critters to urge them to pass the bill.
I haven't heard anything about how that turned out. Anyone have
information on it? I...

faulty fuel sensor - oh puleeze by
Granite
Discovery can't take off because of a bad fuel sensor ? Are they kidding us
? The crew is already strapped in, number one for departure, cocked and
loaded. We just put gas in the thing. I saw the line guys top the tanks
earlier in the day. Stick the tank, placard the gas gauge inop and let's...

Value vs asking price vs selling price by
Casey Wilson
Okay, here's the info. I've done as objective a job I can with Vref,
scouted through Trade A Plane, poked around here and there on the Internet
and come up with a value of $45,000 to $49,000. Let's
split the difference and call it $47,000.
If it makes any difference, the airplane is an older model...

Mackinac Island by
Jon Kraus
The wife and I are contemplating a trip up to Mackinac Island, Michigan
the last weekend in August. Have any of you been there (flown or
otherwise)? If so any recommendations for lodging , eats, etc...
I looks like it will be a really neat flight up there and it is kinda
like stepping back in...

Garmin GNS 430/530: interfacing Air-Data & Fuel-Management by
Kai Glaesner
Hello,
does anyone know, if the Garmin 430/530 can interface to an air-data
computer and a fuel computer (like e.g. the King KLN 90B)?
The question rose when watching the FlightVideoProduction Piper Meridian
DVD. When the pilot used one of the utility pages of his 430 to calculate
wind direction...

Breitling ELT watches by
[email protected]
Anybody know how much these watches sell for? No info on the Breitling
site. I recall reading years ago when these first came out that these
watches were only sold to pilots (doubtful) with the intent to limit
the number of false ELT signals. Then again, I doubt the transmitter is
powerful enough...

Public Aerobatics - a Disaster waiting to happen... by
Denny
I have long expressed my opinion that public displays of low level
aerobatics entails risk vastly out of proportion to any benefits,
perceived or real... Aerobatic displays do not improve public support
for general aviation nor for the preservation of local airports...
Aerobatic displays do not...

Extra Kollsman Altimeter Poimters by
[email protected]
I have an old Square D Kollsman 3 pointer altimeter that I think it's
about 50 or more years old and seems to be in working condition. The
body is about 2 13/16 diameter. The label on the back says part no.

The three altitude pointers give the usual altitude readout. The little
Kollsman...

Flight plan hell, Tales of filing an ADIZ flight plan by
Michelle P
I filed an ADIZ/FRZ flight plan yesterday that went to the wrong Center.
Not once, not twice, not three times, but four times. It turns out that
even if you file with Leesburg FSS for a DC area ADIZ plan it can be
automatically routed to the wrong facility.
I called Friday evening checked weather,...

Flying Southern California (Video) by

Here is an entertaining 5-minute video that shows the fun,
affordability, and accessibility of private aviation in southern
California. You can view it at

(Unfortunately, the pilot seems a bit of a chauvinist.)

Fuel contamination and other basic survival instincts by

This is purely theoretical - it is not something I am planning for next
Saturday :
If you are to fly over an expanse of water or other inhospitible
terrain, for a distance long enough to require re-fueling immediately
prior (US-Europe ferry, for example) - You watch to see that they put
the right...

Lake Winnepausaukee by
Skylune
Does anyone know why planes are landing on this lake? There are alot of
boaters and kayakers around, and it seems like a risky thing to do.
When the planes land on the lake, do Coast Guard regulations or the FAR's
apply?

Practice Engine-Out Landings by
Jay Honeck
The other night, when we were working the pattern as an excuse to watch the
sunset from 1000 AGL, it dawned on me that I hadn't practiced any emergency
procedures since my last biennial. I like to do these things once in a
while, in an effort to remain sharp, and now seemed like a good time.
