Inexpensive GPS data loggers by [email protected]
Ok, anyone know why we are stuck with paying a grand for a blind IGC logger, when one of these is available for less than $200? http://www.astrotekinc.com/DL-100%20Spec.pdf I realize that for it to be a fully IGC-compliant logger it would need more hardware (pressure sensor, security features,...

Canopy for sale by [email protected]
I have an emergency canopy available for sale. It is a 24' Phantom by National. The AD with the reinforcing tape had been complied with. It was designed for a light pilot up 180 lbs. I believe. It was made in 1982. If someone has an interest in buying it as is please email me directly. I am asking...

garmin + see you software by Willie G
I am interested in the garmin iqM5 as it has a GPS receiver built in. Is anyone out there using one of these in their glider? If so, how is the screen on it? okay on daylight? I guess it would be compatible with "see you" software to make a portable solution. Willie

14 y/o Female Solo Yesterday by Brian Iten
Thought I would put a not on the site to say congratulations to Christa Keizer for making her first solo flight yesterday in an AS-K21 out at Caracole Soaring in California City. There were several friends along with her proud father, Alan, attending. She made a 30 minute flight and a perfect two...

Opinions on Varios by Bruce
Time to start a new debate. How do pressure transducer varios compare to traditional mechanical varios in club use? Can you mix and match a capacity vario and a pressure transducer vario on a single TE probe? Do students - please note NOT experienced pilots - find the lcd display units easy to...

Diamonds clarification help please by [email protected]
I need to find out if there is a publication which would explain in detail requirements for diamonds. I understand, after reading some of my books that you need altitude, goal and distance. O'K altitude is not a problem but...what do I use to prove my altitude? Do I need a barograph or can the...

Parachute silk as material for internal 's' sealing. by Stan Kochanowski
Istvan, Be careful. I have had no end of trouble, over the years, with shrinkage of 'Tessa' self-adhesive tape sealing the ailerons of an Open Cirrus - towards the end of each season, reducing travel by 20% or more. I suppose that you could try pre-shrinking the material

inspection of FAA examiners, ahhhhhh, long by Mark James Boyd
Mr. Eiler (I hope I have this right) had asked about some of my conversations with some examiners and about their supervision in an old post. Someone had mentioned as well (maybe it was Mr. Eiler) that one examiner hadn't had an exam check in 13 years, and another examiner had a 100% pass rate for...

Nice skyline article by BB
Readers of this group might like a very nice article on turn radius and handicapping by Judah Milgram http://skylinesoaring.org/NEWSLETTER/2005/February/ Though mostly about handicapping, it also shows very nicely why you should not thermal at the "minimium sink speed" corresponding to the level...

Diamond clarification help please by Stan Kochanowski
A 'Diamond straight out to a goal' attempt (presumably of 300 kilometres) will, I am afraid, result in an 'own goal' only - as far as a Diamond Goal claim is concerned. Please check section three of the FAI sporting code - downloadable from the FAI web site. This explains everything most...

Cylinders now okay for badge and record OZ... by Stewart Kissel
Rereading my October Soaring...if I understand the wording correctly...no more meandering around after flying into a cylinder trying to guess where the OZ is...for those not flying with PDA's that show the pie-cut OZ. Speaking from experience...this should be a big help for those flying with...

Re Clyinders now okay for badge and records by basils27
If you use the cylinder without getting into the sector you get a 1km ditance penalty for each TP which is more than the distance you save by using the cylinder.
