Say Goodbye Lennie by Jeff Dorwart
Lennie, It always saddens me that one of the very few glider pilots chooses to leave the sport. I have been flying gliders since 1975 and have seen many depart for a myriad of reasons. Health, economics, just tired of it, etc, etc. I have personally witnessed a few dings, scrapes and outright...

Commercial - StrePla Competitive Upgrade by Paul Remde
Hi, I'm sorry about this being the 3rd commercial post I've done in the last day or so. I tend to do them in spurts... I promise to slow down after this one. Being a US dealer for StrePla and pocket*StrePla and a member of Team StrePla I have found that many customers are impressed with the...

GPS Hand Held for Badges by Papa3
It boggles the mind how the beaurocratic mind works. I sent a long email to one of the "powers that be" a while back (a name well known on this Usegroup) who didn't even have the courtesy to respond. I suggested that for all badge flights and for records below national or world level, ...

Inside a Compaq 1530 PDA: What's Broken? by Chip Bearden
I've seen it three times this year. There's a problem with the old, faithful 1530. In the process, you take the battery out, then put it back in. Maybe you're replacing the battery (at great cost). Or maybe just resetting the device to start over again. Now it doesn't work. Or doesn't work...

GPS Visualizer now features very-hi-res U.S. city maps by Adam Schneider
Hi all, If you didn't already know, TerraServer (terraserver-usa.com) has recently made available some 2002 very-high-resolution (as high as 0.25m/pixel!) color aerial photography for 36 urban areas in the U.S. The reason I'm bothering to announce this is that GPS Visualizer...

LS-6a Landing Gear Problem by Michael Higgins
My LS-6 gear collapsed and now will not lock down or up. Has any other LS-6 drivers had this happen? What's the fix? I had the glider on the trailer cradle for assembly and lowered the gear. I think the cradle was a little too low and the gear contacted the ground prior to the mechanism locking...

Duster plans wanted by Leon McAtee
I'd like to buy a set of plans for a Duster BJ-1b. These need not be original and can be a copy as they will not be used to build a glider, only for documentation for an existing Duster that came with no plans. ========================= Leon McAtee Leon@Alluretech dot net N 7852R Original...

Fritz Kahl Passes by Bob Johnson
His funeral was held today in the adopted town he so dearly loved, in the First Presbyterian Church of Marfa. All who knew him will know what an empty space his leaving has left in his family, in the Davis Mountain area, and in the aviation and soaring community of West Texas. Enlisting in the...

AOPA by Chris OCallaghan
Casey, The AOPA is a mixed blessing for glider pilots. It is by far the best aviation advocacy group (perhaps in the world), and they appear to provide beneficial services to individual members. But they advocate selectively. And glider pilots are so far down the list, it would be easier to...
