Remove layer of cloth/Gelcoat by glider[_2_]
I know it can be done. On an ASW-15, the first layer of cloth was pulled off the wings and a fresh layer of cloth was applied. It worked out well. The naked surface is rough enough to allow good bond of new layer. GA

Mandatory Radios by JJ Sinclair
The majority of clubs and FBO's in Region 11 have gone to a mandatory radio policy after the recent midair where the tow plane and glider collided turning final. The tow plane was not radio equipped and therefore didn't know (hear) that the glider was turning final from the other direction. That...

boulder mid-air by None[_2_]
The rules say that an aircraft towing or re-fueling has the right-of- way over all other powered aircraft. Please point out to critics of glider operations that every pilot is taught this rule before flying solo and that this rule is on the written test he or she must take before getting a license.

New Mission For the SSA Weather Resources Task Force by SF
The SSA Weather Task Force has been re-treaded with a brand new group of fresh volunteers. The last group to serve on the committee ( Richard Kellerman, Sam Zimmerman there may be some others I don't know ) did an excellent job of writing some very high quality forecasting tutorials. This leaves...

3rd FAI Grand Prix Chile by [email protected]
Today I had a chance to spend some time to see the live coverage of the Grand Prix in Chile. It was superior coverage. Link to the live tracking: http://gliding3.adventuretracking.com/GliderCompetition/chile Today it was interesting seeing 2 Dianas flown by Sebastian Kawa and Thomas Gostner heading...

Program letter cannot be faxed -- original must be mailed... by villinski
I inquired if the annual program letter could be emailed instead of faxed to the local FSDO in Teterboro, NJ. Initially they said that a signed, scanned letter could be emailed, then the "big boss" decided that it could not be emailed and, in fact, could not be faxed, but an original must be mailed...

Time to buy European gliders? by Charles Yeates
Since last November, the US$ / Euro ratio has improved thereby lowering the price of a PW-6 by 9.0%, saving US$ 4700 -- enough to pay ocean shipping cost -- it is the same for other European made sailplanes. Let's hope the ratio holds or improves more. It changes daily.

A little charity? by Bruce
Hi All There is a movement underway to get soaring re-setablished in Bosnia. Apparently some club trainers (Blanik L13s I understand)have been recovered from the unlawful. Regrettably they have been stripped of instruments. So the question is - if you have old but usable instruments in the box...

Google Buzz as Pseudo SPOT? by Kemp[_2_]
The newly released Google Buzz allowing you to do unlimited length tweet-like messages also showing where you sent it from on their maps if you have a GPS enabled 3G type phone. I haven't tried this aloft but it looks like this could be useful for at least transmitting where you landed out. I now...

PDA's for sale by Dick[_3_]
I have given up on PDA's. For $100.00 you can have 3 1550's and 1 IPAQ plus docking stations: 2 for 1550"s and 1 for the IPAQ. 1 of the 1550's wont charge the other 2 worked fine last time I used them about a year or so ago. The IPAQ locks up if it gets too hot (as in Texas). Dick Mockler

Track2Thermic by brianDG303[_2_]
In an earlier post there was mention of Track2Thermic which sounded interesting, but after wasting a couple of hours there is clearly some trick I don't know. I can convert the igc file to a wpt file and after that it's all downhill; GPSbabel will convert to a .cup file for SYM but displaces the...

Time to clean out your closet, or panel... by [email protected]
Seems like from recent posts some are doing just that. I don't have near 2k to dump on a finiky, last century technology mech vario, that self destructs in a 25 k dive (Ask me how I know) BUT, if you have a Ball 700 or 400 series vario, with a working audio. I'll pay more than it's...
