Any Midwest rotorcraft people here? by Gyroplanes
Just a quick survey. I was going to post some local news and pictures from the Chicago area but wasn't sure of the interest. Tom

Anybody See 60 Miuntes? by Rob Bulaga
See it? Heck, I was on it! I assume you're associated with Airscooter? I'm with Trek Aerospace. Glad to share the air time with you. John‰] wrote: http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2005/04/15/60minutes/main688454.shtml

Helicopters and Wires by [email protected]
Anyone else besides me here ever hit a wire in a helicopter? I did it at night while crop dusting in California. Was a steel cable and all it did was leave "chatter" marks in the paint and tore the end cap. Very close call and we had to replace the blades (which were just about timed out anyway). I...

Rotor-wing question by D. Andrews
Hello all, This is my first time posting here, but I figured maybe you all could help me out with a question that has been nagging at me for quite a while. Forgive me if this seems like a stupid question. Here goes: Does a helicopter, without lateral movement, have the ability to fly down, or...

Another Rotor Group by Ol Shy & Bashful
I'm sure it has been posted before but for those who haven't seen it, check out JustHelicopters.com and look at the alternate board - not the original. One is for serious questions, answers, discussions, and the other is wild and raucus with rumor, name calling, crazy, funny as hell sometimes,...

tracking lights by claude lescure
Good morning, I am looking for tracking lights to put at the tip of the blades to see tracking during flight. Have you heard of E-Z Track tracking lights? according to website made on C-GOEZ They seem to be small, cheap, use only two cells and have a feature where the centrifugal force from the...

How do you pronounce "Mi" as in Mil Mi-8 by Justin
I presume it's not "em eye", as the "i" is often in lower case. So what it is? Me, mih, my? Thanks, Justin.

static thrust in pounds produced by tail rotor???????? by [email protected]
Hi I need a perspective so this is a general question . If a 6 foot dia. tail rotor is turning 2500 rpm how many pounds of static thrust at a particular pitch angle would be produced???? And is that for a flat rotor blade meaning no helical twist. Any senario close to the above would be a big help....

Off topic question - Are you receiving viruses? by Mike Williams
I am presently being bombed by viruses that are under the guise of a Microsoft upgrade. There's a discussion on alt.comp.viruses, they have a theory that it seems to be targeting people that post on newsgroups. The reason I ask this question on rec.aviation.rotorcraft is this is the only place I've...

Ultrasport kit helicopter by vince
I was hoping that I could get some advice on the Ultrasport Kit helicopter, in particular on REAL build times for the 331 and 496??. I have been told that the Rotorway is approximately 800-1000 hours, and that the ultrasport is far quicker at about 300 hours. I am from the UK, and there are no...

Some Fiction For Interest by Badwater Bill
Here's a little fiction. It's not polished. It's just a draft. Some of you might like it. Some of you might identify with it. BWB ________________________________________________________

Seating Arrangements by Tim
On another forum, the question has been raised as to why the pilot in a heli usually sits on the right (excepting tandem cockpit arrangements, obviously!), when in a fixed wing aircraft the PIC sits on the left. Does anyone here know the definitive answer? In fact, IS there a definitive answer, or...

Ohhhhhh Micbloo by Shiver Me Timbers
So are the sounds of rotors keeping you awake this week. Spotlights lighting up your bedroom at 3 AM. Subway traffic disrupted for you and the family. Radio traffic blasting from your scanner's speaker. Are you feeling a deep rooted urge to vote in the next few months.

Military Diesel Bike Engine by sanman
I was reading this thing: http://www.drive.cranfield.ac.uk/cfml/dieselmotorbike4.cfm Could this work for a small helicopter, like the kind BJ Schramm was marketing? Comments?

Helicopter futures by Robert M. Gary
My neighbor is training with Silver State helicopters in Sacramento. They claim there are helos sitting around with no one to fly them and that pay can be expected in the $100,000 area. Our local DE thinks they are crooks but I think he just thinks that because they do their checkrides out of town...

How do I find a Bell 47... by Mike
....to get a little stick time? I'm a newbie (about 180 hours split between the 300C and the R22) and I would dearly like to buy a helicopter. No justification at all -- just a huge fascination with helicopters. I think my short list includes a Robinson or a Bell 47. But I've never flown a Bell and...
