$4.04 per gallon at Hilton Head by Guy Byars
Just tanked up at Hilton Head SC. They charged me $3.85 per gallon of 100LL, and then added on a 5% "fuel tax". Works out to $4.04 per gallon. Ouch, a new high. Now that I am back home, I am going to top off with mogas... $2.10 seems cheap now.

$3 digital voltmeters by Jim Weir
For those of you who want a cheap knockaround digital voltmeter (multimeter, actually) Harbor Freight has them for $2.99 apiece (part #30756). Shipping is $6 PER ORDER minimum, so I'd probably get together with the chapter and order a couple of dozen to spread the shipping costs around. The...

$100 Hamburgers in Maine by Patrick
Hi folks, We're headed up to Bangor and Bar Harbor to cool down for a vacation next week and I was thinking about renting an airplane for a day or two and touring part of the state. Any thoughts on neat destinations in the area? Also, I wonder if any FBOs or clubs rent Bonanzas up there? All...

$1 + OVC by Ben Smith
Hello and happy Friday : I requested an FAA CD-ROM with all the archived paperwork for my plane. While looking through the various 'Bill of Sale' forms, most of them say '$1 + OVC' for the selling price. (OVC = Other Verbal Consideration) Any ideas why this is done? -- Ben C-172 - N13258 @ 87Y

#5 cylinder not firing by David R.
We have a 1979 Cessna 182RG with 1350 hours since overhaul. 6 weeks ago, we began to notice the engine to be rough on the right magneto during run-up. Over two weeks, it became increasingly difficult to burn it off by leaning during the run-up, until one day when it became impossible. ...

#2 OBS, what would you do? by Snowbird
Our #2 OBS is a KI-201C. Our avionics guy rescued it when it turned out to be inop after we bought the plane, by soldering in a $10 capacitor or some such, and it worked flawlessly for about 5 yrs. Now a 10 degree change on the OBS only produces half deflection. This time same avionics guy can't...

"Yellow tag" and my A&P's inspection by Michael Horowitz
Couple of months's ago I bought a used strut from an indivudual. My A&P sandblasted it, inspected it, declared it OK. That's the same process the strut would have gone thru if I had purchased it with a "yellow tag", correct? - Mike

"W" is JFK's son and Bush revenge killed Kennedy in 1963 by Ross C. Bubba Nicholson
JFK gave Barbara Pierce a lesson in life in the summer of 1944 (making her a "Cape Cod heiress"), and to her eventual husband, JFK gave a personal motive for revenge. Perhaps if George and Barb had announced their earlier engagement or even if George had given Barb a diamond instead of a cheap...

"Speed" tape? by Jay Honeck
At Reno, all the Formula One and Sport class racers had every single non-aerodynamic gap covered with clear tape. Which got me to thinking, there are LOTS of non-aerodynamic gaps on my Pathfinder. The stuff looks like basic, clear packing tape. Anyone used this stuff? Is there any benefit at...

"dual magneto" by Kai Glaesner
Hello, reading the "no RPM drop..." thread gave rise to a question: what is the benefit (if there is any) of the "dual magneto" (two magnetos in a single housing) installation? Should these kind of installation be preferred, or avoided (if there is a choice ;-)? Thanks in advance for the...

"certified' parts by Jimmy B.
