Flyin' (sky)Ferraris OR The media is catching on... by wright1902glider
Looks like our old friend Paul is at it again. Reminds me a lot of the contractor-guy in that movie "The Money Pit". (When will my house be done? Oh, in about two weeks!) Right. And Jerry Lewis said that we were only a few years away from a cure for MD. That was in 1977. At least the reporter...

The Wright motor for the job - WAS: 13 horsepower by wright1902glider
Veedub: Usually I defer to your great wealth of knowledge about all things that fly. But in this case, I feel the need to point out a few corrections to your statements about the 1903 Wright motor, per my last reading of "The Papers of Wilbur & Orville Wright" (complied from letters and field...

Hawaiian MOGAS, ethanol, the EAA and your local legislature by wright1902glider
I ran across this notice on the EAA website today regarding proposed legislation in the state of Hawaii to exclude premium mogas from the 10% ethanol requirement. Please take a few minutes to read the Bill itself. This may be very useful if you live in an area where only E10 is sold, and there is...

BD-5 crash in Australia by wright1902glider
You may have finally made a positive point for hot-dogging. Anyone think of a down side? -- Jim in NC Impact with unusual terrain or obsticles maybe. If there was enough weather, such as windshear, microburst downdrafts, or severe crosswinds I'd keep that rollerskate on the...

Needed: Good (cheap) source for SS cable & sweges by wright1902glider
Anyone have a good (ie cheap) source for SS cable, thimbles, and sweges? This is for a non-aviation project so strength specs aren't an issue, as long as its SS (or looks like SS to my roommate). The intended useage is in the rails of the deck I've been attempting to finish for months. Yes, its...

White lead & castor oil on prop shaft? by wright1902glider
While attempting to distract myself from 8 hours of filing documents on Friday, I Youtubed up the Republic / Air Corps training film on how to field assemble the P-47 Thunderbolt. (Where I work, that's called multi-tasking.) In the film, they describe coating the prop shaft of the R-2800 with the...

Epps 1907 monoplane at NBAA 2007 by wright1902glider
According to the NBAA website, there will be a reproduction Epps 1907 monoplane hanging in the enterance hall of the Georgia World Congress Center for the NBAA 2007. In fact, it should be there right now. Anyone going to, or at, NBAA 2007 in Atlanta? Anyone near Atlanta? Can you get me a photo or...

The Wright 1899 Kite Flys Again! ...sort of by wright1902glider
Damned if it ain't flew. Well sorta. On Tuesday we had chinooks here in Boulder, so at lunch I snuck over to Scott Carpenter Park (uh huh that guy has a park named after him) and managed 14 flights with the replica Wright 1899 kite before it rendered itself unflyable. This may have been the first...

While browsing a bit more of that "good 'ole internet wizdom", I ran accross this page: http://www.ihpva.org/com/PracticalInnovations/materials.html Its a human-powered vehicle website, but on this page, the author seems to think that 4130 cro-mo steel can't be welded with an oxy- acetylene...

MT Props w/Electric Pitch Control by x
Anyone care to comment on using one of MT's composite blade props with electric pitch control? Eggenfellner seems to really want you to use this prop with his Subaru setup. I'm a bit concerned both with a composite prop and an electric pitch control.
