How safe is the sport of soaring today by
Mot
With the increase of glider accidents these days, just how safe is
this sport? There is always a element of risk associated with flying
but how does soaring compare with other forms of aviation or
motorsports?

Cambridge Instruments by
fw.unt
Hi
Since about one year I hear rumors about Cambridge will stop
developping and makeing their great flight instruments. Does anybody
have some more information about that? We plan to buy C302/303 for our
new gliders and don't want to invest in the wrong direction.
Thanks for any hint, FW.

AOPA Article by
Kilo Charlie
The June issue of Pilot, the AOPA's magazine, has an article about the
influence of GPS in sailplane racing. It features pictures and a story based
upon the 2003 Standard Class Nationals at Montague (USA). It isn't long but
is well written and great exposure for us in a powered pilot magazine.
If...

towplane mirrors by
Curt Cole
It makes a big difference what you're towing with.
Previous post on Pawnees correct. Supercub, Scout,
Citabria, and especially Cessnas a very different animal.
My favourite was a Hudson mirror on a Supercub...
if you you've never driven a Hudson, try a Studebaker.
Know of a couple of electric...

Alan Smith 15B
Thanks for a job well done to Sam Giltner, Ed Byers, Ray Galloway,
Walt Cawby, Glenn Holden and Don Bell.
A great week of soaring with an emphasis on fun and safety. If you are
new to competitive soaring, as I am, Chester is the place to go to.
Tasks were set which challenged the experts but were...

your vehicle but I can do either. My fee is typicially about $.45 a

Cirrus canopy frame repair by
Louw Pieters
Hello all,
I need to repair my canopy frame for my Cirrus which was accidentally cut to
get the hinges out. So now I need to fill a gap where the hinges were so
that I can re-fit them. Obviously I am worried that this needs to be the
strong part of the frame to hold the hinges, but without...

Tow pilot for summer by
h123_321
Is there a need for a towpilot for 2-3 months in the summer of 2004? I would
be available for July-September to tow gliders in US or somewhere in Europe.
My home country is Finland.
I started towing in 2002. Since I have accumulated some 400 hours of towing
with Piper PA-25 Pawnee and Cessna C-188...

Is there a standard for pneumatic instrument tubing colors?
Best I can tell in my LS-4:
Green is TE
Red is Pitot
Blue is Static
Does this jive? Is there a standard?

Proxalert R5 Proximity alerter by
Andrew
Bhelman is ridiculous ... When Avcon said in their April 2004 issue
surecheck is 'slightly better' than the Monroy Surecheck found useful
to report this
statement on their website.
When the same Aviation Consumer says in their June 2004 that the
Proxalert R5
is the EASY WINNER over surecheck,...
