LXNAV S80 Pilot Reports? by
[email protected]
Would anyone care to comment on their experience with the LXNAV S80 vario? Pro's, con's, likes, dislikes, does it perform per manual specs, etc? On paper it looks like a very nice instrument. Thanks for any feedback.

Still too many alerts and warnings by
John Mittell
I have unchecked all but the critical warning. Does the vertical range
limit the number of warnings by displaying only those threats within the
bounds of vertical range. If so, what is a safe number, 500 feet?

Mike Rinaldi
Considering the purchase of a 13.5 FES. I believe the future for the electric self-launch is bright especially with the performance reports I'm reading. Any thoughts? What to buy?

No Thrust? No Problem! by
Greg Delp
Another soaring T shirt available. The graphic plays with the lack of thrust in the standard four forces of flight for gliders. All funds raised will be donated to an SSA club to be used for introducing people to soaring via intro rides.

What is with XC Skies? by
JS
At 8AM on Saturday, the NAM and GFS forecast for 2PM Saturday is 45 hours old.
RAP is unavailable. The server must be down again.
This year, GFS 2PM forecasts only update at 00Z. Good thing we don't fly at 2PM.

Playing around with the pitch phugoid by
[email protected]
You've blundered into the white room. You have primitive gyro guidance in the form of a turn rate indicator and so you are keeping the wings level, sort of. You are trimmed for 55 and the airspeed has just risen (alarmingly rapidly) to 85 and then temporaily plateaued there, staying constant for...

Does FLARM meet TABS requirement? by
Mark Palmer
Hey all,
I'm in the process of writing my response to the FAA's ANPRM on transponders in gliders. One of the items covered in the document is TABS (Traffic Awareness Beacon System) under TSO-C199. Does FLARM come under this TSO?
I hadn't heard of TABS before reading the ANPRM, and while it talks...

QUOTES- Here they are! by
Mark628CA
Ones we used on tourists in my hang gliding days:
Lady tourist: "You must be crazy!"
Me: "Ma'am, when you are dealing with crazy people, it is inadvisable to bring it to their attention."
Spectator (a pilot):
"Looks like fun, but I think I'd rather have an engine."

FLARM data format for contacts logged in IGC files by
[email protected]
With a typical IGC file at 4MB, that gives around 4000 contacts, which at first blush seems like it would be enough to get a good range. 360 degrees, more than 10 samples per degree. Unfortunately, the angular sampling isn't necessarily very uniform and the FLARM range analysis only gives you...
