Macchi 205, Re. 2005, Fiat G.55 by N-6
I am interested in getting more info about the Italian "Series 5" fighters of WW2 (Macchi MC. 205, Reggiane Re. 2005, Fiat G.55). Some specific questions: 1. Did any Macchi 205's have 20mm cannons installed /inside/ the wings, or did cannon-equipped 205's only have them in under-wing gondolas? My...

Q's: MiG-29, Su-27, R-73, & R-77 by N-6
When did the MiG-29 receive capability to fire the vectored-thrust R-73 off-boresight missles using helmet-mounted targeting? Did the MiG-29 have R-73's and the helmet-mounted display/targeting system since the beginning--that is, since the MiG-29A first became operational in 1984 (or was it...

I need information regarding the A6M3 Model 22a Zero (with improved long-barrel cannons), which I have not been able to find elsewhere. * What was the month/year that this specific model (22a) of the Zero became operational? I need to know whether it entered service before or after 1942. * Did...

Ki-100 armament placement by N-6
About half the sources I have say that the Kawasaki Ki-100 had 2 cannons mounted on the fuselage and 2 heavy MGs mounted in the wings, while the other half say that the cannon were mounted in the wings and the MGs in the fuselage. Which is correct? If both are correct, then why did they switch the...

Ta-152H at low altitudes by N-6
For the experts: As made obvious by its wings, the Ta-152H was designed as a high-altitude interceptor. But I am interested in how the Ta-152H handled at low-to-medium altitudes. How did the Ta-152H compare with the Fw-190D at such alts? I suppose the ultra-long wings of the Ta considerably...

Spitfire Controls by N-6
Anyone out there that has flown or been in the cockpit of a Supermarine Spitfire? I am wondering about the circular control "handle" particular to the British fighter and how it seems to me that it would have been quite awkward or uncomfortable to use (compared to a conventional fighter stick)...

Marine fighter pilots? by Navin R. Johnson
I rented The Great Santini the other night and was surprised to find out that the Marines had fighter pilots. I thought the only USAF and Navy had the fighter pilots.

Boeing wins MMA comp by Neil Gerace
It was reported in today's paper that Boeing has been awarded a contract to develop the USN's Orion replacement. LockMart, the other bidder, lost with its Orion 21. The new aircraft, like the RAAF Wedgetail AEW&C platform, will be based on the Boeing 737-700IGW (or BBJ) airframe.

Boeing 367-80 questions by Neil Gerace
Is that plane the 707 prototype or the KC-135A prototype? I understand the 707 is wider than the -135A (in order to match the DC-8) and has other differences in structure. Also, anyone know why Boeing gave it the same model number as the B-367, which was a completely different airframe?
