National Air Tour Pix by
Jay Honeck
I'm on a roll now -- so here's a new page of pix Mary and I took at the
National Air Tour stop yesterday, in Anoka, MN.
If you like old planes, find the nearest place the tour is stopping, and get
thee to it!

Add your plane to the Rec.Aviation Photo Page! by
Jay Honeck
Okay, I had a little time today to create a webpage where we can display our
favorite airplanes!
See it at http://www.alexisparkinn.com/rec_aviation.htm I've only had
time to add MU-2 Mike, Mary and me, and pictures from the rec.aviation party
we held at OSH 2003. I've got a couple of more...

Interior Refurb Complete! by
Jay Honeck
And it only took 15 months... ;-)
When we bought Atlas (our '74 Cherokee 235 Pathfinder, named because he can
lift ANYTHING we can fit inside) in 2002, the only thing I didn't like was
his interior. We immediately replaced the ceiling plastic, but the rest of
the interior was tired, too. A...

DG Questions by
Jay Honeck
Six weeks ago my attitude indicator gave up the ghost, after slowly dying
over a period of several months. It's been replaced with a re-built unit
that's working fine.
Two days ago my directional gyro abruptly failed. It worked fine flying
into Pella, and it didn't work at all flying out. The...

Didja ever wonder... by
Jay Honeck
....why our Lycoming engines call for 12 (or 8) quarts of oil, when they blow
out anything over 8 (or 6) quarts?
My old A&P, a real gray head with decades of aviation experience, mentioned
the reason to me in conversation today. Here's the poop:
When Lycoming was certifying these engines, they...

Power port in panel? by
Jay Honeck
Is it legal to have your A&P install a "power port" (NOT a cigarette lighter
outlet) in your panel? Does it require a field approval?
I want something on the pilot's side that is more robust than a cigarette
lighter, to power our yoke-mounted GPS.

Polishing your prop? by
Jay Honeck
Is polishing your prop legal?
Now that we've got ours almost done, of course one of our airport wags
mentioned that it might not be acceptable -- despite the fact that every
10th plane you see has one.

Fiberglass Tip Tanks Question by
Jay Honeck
Got a problem here, and I'm wondering if anyone else has run into it before.
Five years ago (or so) the previous owner of our Cherokee 235 repainted the
fiberglass wingtip tanks.
Apparently he had an automotive body shop do the fiberglass work, and around
the filler necks they used a fiberglass...

Av Map -- An absolutely stunning color GPS by
Jay Honeck
http://aviation.c-map.com/ProductInfo/AVMAP/ekp3c.asp
Mary and I picked up one of these things in OSH, and I'm absolutely stunned
that there has been virtually NO discussion of this almost unbelievable
"hand-held" here on the groups.
When my Airmap 300 started to get hinky, I started down the...

This is the website from the National Cherokee Pilot's Association fly-in,

it was very well attended, well organized, and a good time was had by all.
For those of you with Cherokees --...

Artificial Horizon/Autopilot Connection by
Jay Honeck
So my AI has been going whacky for several months now -- falling over on its
side, then erecting, and so on.
We finally realized that, with night-flying season nearly upon us, we'd
better replace that boat anchor with an instrument we can trust. Although
we don't fly IFR, we DO occasionally fly...

Transponder Problem by
Jay Honeck
The third digit on my formerly bullet-proof Narco AT-50 transponder has
suddenly started displaying incorrectly for ATC. Specifically, it seems to
be showing as a "4" on their screens, regardless of what we dial it to in
the plane. Thus, instead of squawking "1200" when we're VFR, we're
squawking...

Composite Aircraft in the long term... by
Jay Honeck
Okay, so Cirrus is cooking along at 60 aircraft per month. They're selling
everything they can build, and people who have bought them are ecstatic.
Fast forward to the year 2018. What's going to be happening to these
composite beauties?
Reason for asking: A long discussion with some pilots who...

Six seat aircraft? by
Jay Honeck
What are the current 6-seat single engine aircraft in production?
I can think of the Cessna 206, the newly re-minted Cherokee Six, and the
Beech Bonanza (well, it's sort of a 6-seater...).
Are there any others?
Are there any experimental 6-seaters? I wonder if Cirrus is aiming to
release one?

Lightspeed Comes Through! by
Jay Honeck
As many of you know, while at OSH 2003 I had one of those inadvertent
"once-in-a-lifetime" conversations with the president of Lightspeed
Aviation. The story goes as follows:
I've had three pair of LightSpeed headset -- two 15s and a 20XL -- that I
have purchased over the last four years. The...

NARCO Com 120 question by
Jay Honeck
By the way, did you put an entry in your airframe log? Even if it wasn't
an FAA issue, it would probably be helpful to have the model and serial
number recorded just in case it ever gets stolen.
Yep!
