Bizarre Fatal Accident-Suicide? by
Rocky
Over the weekend an 84 yr old man apparently unfastened his seatbelt,
climbed out of the cockpit of the biplane he was riding in and stepped
off to fall to his death. He hit some power lines that appeared to cut
his torso in half and the parts plunged onto an apartment building.
The pilot attempted...

faith in the fuel delivery infrastructure by
Chris Hoffmann
I'll probably need an airport tour to answer this to my satisfaction, but I
thought it merited a discussion here anyway.
It seems pretty standard that, after an airplane is refueled, you wait 10-15
minutes and resample the fuel to check for contaminants (water). I recently
witnessed a situation...

Mach 7! by
Dylan Smith
It's good to see that despite all the naysayers, NASA still does
incredibly cool things. I watched the X-43A successfully launch on NASA
tv over the Internet, and it turns out that they got Mach 7 out of an
aircraft powered by an air-breathing engine.
Good to see new research like this into...

My Engine Fire!! by
[email protected]
It's 10pm. It's 6 degrees outside. I decide to go flying. I fly an Cessna
150.
The engine has a Tanis preheater. During the pre-flight I notice that the
engine block feel reasonably warm. Everything else looks good.
I prime 3 or 5 shots and crank the engine. No joy. I let it crank for...

Addiction by
Roger Long
In the 1970's, I lived in a beautiful and interesting town by the sea where
I spent the best and worst days of my youth. I worked for the most
prestigious oceanographic institution in the nation and fell in love with
marine research. I decided to devote my career as much as possible to the
design...

TWA & the Turtle
The pilot of a private aircraft called the control tower at Kansas
City's municipal airport and said: "You might inform the TWA plane which
is about to take off from the north end that the object near my position
that looks like a rock is really a turtle on the runway."

Quick question about an incident which happend today by
Chris
Hi everyone,
I have a question for people who fly in CT, and NY often. Today I was
flying from Danbury (DXR) to Brookhaven (HWV). I flew out without incident.
Coming home I flew from Brookhaven direct to Calverton then to Bridgeport
then direct Danbury using a combination of my sectional chart and...

Starting Engine Question (O-320, Warrior) by
Lisa
My question refers to Warrior IIs, but could be about other
Lycoming O-320 and O-360 engines with electric fuel pumps too.
I've noticed checklists on some Warriors tell you to turn the
electric fuel pump ON and leave it on for starting, and others
tell you to turn the fuel pump ON, check pressure,...

Preflighting has changed for ever! by
Robert M. Gary
Check out http://www.keyhole.com They have a tool for $40/year that
allows you to "fly" to your destination before you fly! This isn't
like some flight simulator, these are actual satellite pictures. You
can even see your house and tell if your neighbor has a pool or not.
The pictures are 3d so you...

In Memoriam by
StellaStar
Let us all pause for a moment of silence for the destruction about a year ago
of poor Meigs field. You'll remember many thought briefly it must be an April
Fool story, when we heard that raving fool Mayor Daley had called bulldozers
out to carve up the field at midnight.
To our dismay, it turned...
