tail rotor rotation direction by
Stuart & Kathryn Fields
Just attended a fly-in at Westport OK. There were some 27 helicopters
there. Attending were Rotorways, a Brantly, some R-22s, a R-44,
Schweitzers, a Hiller and a Safari. Only one of these ships had the tail
rotor turning in the "right" direction. It as the Safari. It seems that

Clutch switch position by
Stuart & Kathryn Fields
A recent incident involving a Rotorway helicopter occurred. An accidental
bumping of the clutch switch dis-engaged the clutch. The resulting
autorotation resulted in a roll over and of course some significant damage.
As I understand it, the switch was mounted in the overhead panel but the...

Dennis Fetters Rumour by
Kevin O'Brien
There's a rumour going around that Dennis Fetters perished in a Brantly
crash in Argentina in July.
For a rumour, that's very specific, and I'm going to check it out in
Argentina. But it seems to me that it's pretty farfetched for several
reasons. Seems like this group might be a place to...

New helicopter designs by
Stuart Fields
There are several firms offering either plans for, or kits, for homebuilt
helicopters that have little if any supporting actual flite test data. Yet
apparently there are willing buyers out there willing to part with their
money for these subjects of marketing rhetoric. Even EAA gave some...

Third "turbine" on top of large Mil helis? by
[email protected]
Hi, many of the large Mil helis have what looks like a third turbine
above, and slightly behind the two main turbines. What is it? All of
the specs for these helis say they have two turbines. I can see blades
in some photos, so it's obviously something like a turbine.
Thanks,...

Hi,
I'd done some reading about pre-rotators for gyroplanes which can be
used to give them a jump takeoff. I was wondering if any of them have
tried using compressed gas to power the pre-rotator?

Looking for information regarding baloon/helicopter experiment by
wavy
I know the video was not fake, but I have no information about it.
I believe I recorded it from a compilation of aircraft accidents but
it was from 20 years ago.
I unfortunately dont have the tape anymore.
The vehicle, I believe - was put together by some contractor for the
forestry service.
It...

Merry Christmas to all by

Here's a joke for you that I got from another thread,
The Public Works Minister of a former French colony in Central Africa
is in
France in an official visit.
He is invited for a dinner at the private house of his French
counterpart.
When he reaches the place, he can't refrain to say:

Cheapest place to get a helicopter license by
[email protected]
Where is the cheapest place to get dual training in an R22 helicopter?
I thought I found a flight school web site that advertised $150/hr,
but I didn't save the link and can't find it again so I'm starting to
wonder if I just dreamed it.
Are there individuals with their own R22 and a CFI license...

Dubya / Kill Devil Hills irony by
Bart
I'm watching the President's speech on CNN now at Kill Devil Hills.
The fact that there's a _huge_ TFR surrounding the area bothers me
a little. I wonder is he's really aware of how much impact he had
on GA and the people trying to get in and out of there.
I did notice that unlike the routine...
