Battery Question by
[email protected]
All,
I purchased an 8 Amp-hour battery for use in my ASW-20 about 6 months
ago. I had been running a radio, ELT, 302/303 combination, and IPAQ
3800. With that combination my battery would last longer than I wanted
to be in the air; generally more than 5 hours.
I recently removed the 303 and added...

Commodious Sailplane? by
Jim[_6_]
I've been searching for a used sailplane for a month; most are proportioned
for pilots not-so-large as me. Any recommendations for ships with commodious
cockpit dimensions?

Dear gliding fellows,
I have been asked to participate to this thread although I do not read
your newsgroup (by lack of time only).
I own and fly a Nimbus 4DM Night VFR certified. I believe that this is
the only Night VFR certified glider. This is a...

ELT EPIRB by
[email protected]
I stumbled across this ACE AquaFix 406 ELT EPIRB while looking for a
transponder:

It contains a GPS that transmits your location in an emergency. ACR
also has a $75 rebate for participating dealers (and they DO have to be
participating),...

The Soft Release? by
Gary Boggs
I'm not sure about the rest of the world, but here in the USA it's pretty
wide spread to release the tension on the tow rope before pulling the
release handle by getting a little high, and then doing a shallow dive. If
I remember right, this came about because the tow hooks on the Schweizers
were...

Gliding Experience Helps by
Karl Striedieck
To all of my flying friends,
Glider Training is what seamlessly enabled me to switch gears and take this
event in stride on this one. A guardian angel might have helped as well.
I was talking to Detroit Metro tower, circling over a densely populated site
8 miles east of Detroit Metro (DTW)...

12v - 12v charger by
5Z
I currently charge the (hard to remove) batteries in my ASH-26E with a
solar panel and charger installed on/in my trailer. During a contest,
the plane may not spend much time in the trailer during daylight hours,
but it does spend most nights in there.
The solution would be to use the solar panel...

Jet sailplane photos by
Bob C
Photos from Wednesday's photo mission. I flew formation
with Clayton Stansell's Cessna 175 for about 35 minutes.
The twin AT-450's only required about 50% thrust to
keep the sailplane in the formation at 80 MPH indicated
(about 92 MPH true) at 7000' MSL. Photos by Bill Pearson
of High Altitude...

Commercial - New LX7007 by
Paul Remde
Hi,
LX Navigation will soon begin shipping the new LX7007 Pro IGC flight
computer. I expect the first units to arrive sometime in July.
The LX7007 Pro IGC is the newest version of what was previously the LX7000
Pro IGC. The new version offers a faster processor, more memory (I think)
for...

migraine medication and soaring by

Recent medical check reveiled I suffer from migraine. Well, no harm done
there, since I seem to have that all of my life and am pretty much used to

Still, after a long talk with my family doctor I do want to try and find

Musings on SOARING cover photos by
Ray Lovinggood
Is there a rule stating the cover photo for SOARING
magazine HAS to be a sailplane?
I would doubt it. And why should there be?
I like the cover photo, showing the SSA headquarters
building at Hobbs, NM, in snow. It's a nice, seasonal,
shot of our organization's home base.
What else could go on...

My crew and I are purchasing a motorhome soon, and at the same time,
replacing her Toyota pickup with a more economical sedan. I'd like to
get one that's light enough to tow behind the motorhome on winter
trips, but heavy enough to tow the glider when the need arises. Iow a
towable tow...
