1-26 ers at it again by [email protected]
The top two OLC point-getters in the US for June 6th were both 1-26 guys in California. Doug Levy and George Powell posted flights of 544 km and 415 km. Pretty cool.

gliders to love/hate by John Firth[_4_]
As this is the trivia season, here are recollections. Among the 50 plus types I have flown, the worst are the 2-22 , the Pratt-Read and probably the Tutor in which I soloed plus the Kirby Kite II; hard to remember from 55 years ago. Designs have improved so much that it is hard to rate the...

International Gliding Commission by [email protected]
Here's a debatable subject few appreciate. For the second time in five years, the I.G.C. Bureau has been unable to find a worthy recipient to be awarded the Lilienthal Medal, Gliding's highest award. The Bureau has only 90,000 pilots/officials to select a recipient from. ( ? ? ?)

TE probes? by soaringjac
Might be a dumb question, but can you just purchase any old TE prob and throw it in your glider or does it have to be calibrated to your specific glider?

Glider Financing by Clay[_4_]
I suspect most buyers of, say, a Porsche 911 are leasing or financing. They are not paying cash and are not buying as part of a syndicate. All Noel is saying is we should be able to do the same. I entirely agree and thank him for fighting the good fight. Clay

Netto by JJ Sinclair[_2_]
I tried to post a correction on my old Netto post, but the thing kept giving me an *error* message. Anyway, this is what I tried to say: A real vario during cruise will show mostly DOWN with a 3 knot thermal being displayed as going from DOWN 600 to DOWN 300. A pure netto vario will show mostly...

Pik 20D by Nick Kennedy
Hey you guys, Can i get some information regarding the Pik20D. To previous owners; would you own one again? Are they nice to fly? To Rig? To launch and land? How do they go at 80 knots? Do they fly well at max gross wt.? I have read that they are not real good in the rain but this is not a concern...

No more "10 km apart" by K.P. Termaat
To avoid "yo-yoing" rules 1.4.5.b. and 1.4.3.c. of the Code have the "10 km apart / only once" restriction. Works fine to avoid that pilots fly back and forth between two nearby turnpoints e.g. along mountain ridges. We feel however that it is not reasonable to apply this "anti yo-yo" restriction...

(Hijacked) Bang for the Buck by Steve Hill
Derek C. wrote "In my experience, owning a higher performance glider just means that you land out further away" This is the exact reason I enjoy the self launching sailplane so much. Lots of people thinks it's because you can go whenever you want, which holds some truth, but in fact, we all want...
