Control Tower without class D by
Danny Deger
In another thread, I have just read that there might be controlled airports
without having class D airspace, and pilots are supposed to know this and
know to contact the tower and stay of their non-class D airspace if they are
not in contact with the tower.
Can anyone confirm this?

AOPA Pilot color blind? by
Jim Burns[_2_]
The latest issue of AOPA Pilot contains an article about vortex generators.
The article places high emphasis on how they can improve controllability
during low airspeed single engine operations in twin engine airplanes. The
subtitle of the article, as it relates to twins, mentions "Blueline Ops...

Unknown landing strip by
Mongoose
A buddy of mine has a landing strip on his farm and he's trying to
find out what it's previous identifier was. Apparently his wife's
grandfather was an enthusiast and had it registered many many years
ago. I haven't been able to find anything in the CAP.
Any suggestions on where I could find...

Committee Vote on User Fees by
Orval Fairbairn
I got this from AOPA tonight. The Nelson-Sununu amendment to kill the
$25 per flight for turbine-powered aircraft was killed 12-11.
All the usual suspects voted against it:
"We lost a close vote by a margin of 12 to 11 on the Nelson/Sununu
amendment that would have struck the $25 air traffic...

looking for a video by
mike regish
I saw a video some time back that was 3 or 4 WWII fighters skimming their
wheels along some glassy smooth water at about 300 knots in formation. I've
looked all over but can't find it anywhere.
Any help greatly appreciated.

AvWeb has posted the link to Andrew's audio file website in their

Good luck Andrew. Time to think about placing some Google ads and making
some money while you can. :-)

Thanks to this group...again by
Jay Honeck
Some of you have emailed me to ask about my (relative) absence from
this group of late. I haven't posted much about flying since Sun N
Fun, simply because we haven't done any. Why?
See: http://www.alexisparkinn.com/new_lobby!.htm

A hot start question by
chris[_1_]
Hi peoples.. Hopefully this is an easy one for you experts out
there...
Hot start on a fuel injected Lycoming commonly seems to call for
leaving the mixture at ICO and cranking. Bearing in mind the engine
stopped because the mixture was set to ICO, and if you're then not
moving the mixture...

Free online METAR, TAF and others on your cell phone by
ppl
I have seen that a lot of people is looking for a way (far from a nice
PC) to get a real time weather update... probably on your cell phone.
When I started flying, I often found myself far from a weather
forecaster or a PC to get the METARs and TAFs for the aerodromes I
needed, so I made a little...

Everyone needs to remember that Andrew's recording is not real time,
minute by minute. It only records when the squelch is broken, thus for
the one hour elapsed time, the actual transmission time total is about
15 minutes of recorded transmissions.

Tacoma, WA - Narrows airport might be closing by
steve[_1_]
I just heard that they are considering closing down the Tacoma Narrows
Airport (KTIW) due to zoning and funding issues. This airport has been there
for a long time and it is a beautiful place to fly to. It would be a shame
to see it shut down. The other nearest airports to the Tacoma/ Gig Harbor...

It would sure be nice if they'd email (if you subscribed) when the
TFR's are updated. AOPA does this, but I didn't get this one for some
reason...
