Can you see me now? by [email protected]
Today I took a step toward settling a question I've had for a long time. After making sure the frequency was pretty empty, I went ahead and made the call: Me: Pitt Approach, Schweizer glider 34367. PA: Aircraft calling Pitt, say again call sign. Me: Pitt Approach, this is Schweizer glider...

Re. Can you see me now? by Nigel Pocock
There are a few problems with fitting transponders. I fly from a very active gliding site betwen two busy airfields and under the main airway. On a typical busy summer weekend, particularly if we have a competition taking place, we can easily have 60 to 100 gliders beeing launched between 10.30...

Purchasing a Sailplane in Canada by keelstrake
I am about to buy a ship in Canada and bring it into the US. Compounding the fact that it is my first sailplane purchase is that I have never been to Canada, let alone bought anything there. The owner has a valid C of A issued by Transport Canada, the original export C of A for the glider to...

Let's talk ground launching........ by Rusty
Hello All: With the price of fuel going up and the price of AeroTows close behind it I think the need to follow the lead of our brethren in the UK is close at hand. I have heard talk of the infamous $100.00 tow and know that I for one can't afford it, I have to work for a living as do most of you!...

How to clear memory in Aero 1530? by Stewart Kissel
This is probably simple...but I have never done it before. The CE help index refers me to the Compaq help index, which I assume came on a CD that I don't have. I am searching the internet, but so far no luck. ActiveSync will not create a partnership without me clearing memory, I checked in file...

finally resolved Kern County tax problem by ken ward
As some of you may recall, although my glider has been at Minden for years (and I pay taxes there), a few months ago I got a tax bill from Kern County (KC). The supposed aircraft location was the Cal City airport. After a few phone calls I determined that the bill was based on a casual...

How does your club schedule crews? by DNewill
Our club is considering changing the way we schedule the ground and flight support crews ( tow, instructors, recorder, crew chief, assistant, etc.) Would like to find out how your club schedules the volunteers who make it work. Some clubs have only the Director of Ops, Tow Pilot and IP scheduled --...

Let's talk ground launching..... by Steve Leonard
As to the question of 'Should we use a chute?' If you are using rope (plastic), I think the answer is a resounding 'NO'. Let it fall to the ground. It will not kink or snarl. If you put a chute on plastic ropes, the end will just land further from the runway in the inevitable...

LS6 vs LS3 vs Discus question by Kay Scott
Looking at sailplanes. Is a 15m LS6 really any better than a 15m LS3? Both are flapped and have 40:1 glide slopes. In fact why does the LS6 have a better handicap than say a Discus, when the Discus is 2 points better in the glide? Is the 15m LS6 any better than an LS3 or Discus?? Thanks Kay

Seeking V2C info by Ted Wagner
I will be the new owner of a Ventus 2C in a week and I'm trying to scratch together what I need for the flight computer. Is there a WinPilot polar file available somewhere? I could not find one on the WinPilot web page. I also need the polar coefficients (a, b, c) for my LX5000. (With one of those...
