Virtually all my glider time and heck fixed wing and rotary wing flight time has been in the mountains of the West. GPS vs Gliding Computer by Mike Reid
Right after I win the lottery, I'm going to buy a Stemme. I've never flown a glider with either a GPS unit or a gliding computer, and I see that the Stemme comes with both. What do you get with one that you don't get with the other, and vice versa? Any information would be appreciated. Mike

ASH 25M Polar by [email protected]
Hi Nik, the difference in glide performance between the winglet configurations is not that large. But the 26m-winglets increase aileron effectiveness and significantly improve handling in thermals. Climb performance is also said to improve. Best, Christoph

ASK-21 Parachute advice, please! by Kimmo Hytoenen
Looks like Flexpack service time is 15 years only, so I have to purchase 2 new parachutes for our ASK-21 trainer. Should it be latest version of Flexpack, or something else? Some chutes just do not fit in that plane, and in training use (lots of 7 min flights from winch) caused wear & tear can...

Speaking of Ridge - [US Mid-Atlantic Region] by Papa3[_2_]
Looks like a front passes through Thursday into Friday with winds favorable for ridge in the Appalachians. However, the timing is slightly "off"; as of now it looks like it may clear too late to give us significant time on Thursday and winds may slacken by mid-afternoon on Friday. Haven't had...

Radio/Transponder cost by Roel Baardman
I have been wondering if anyone can explain a bit how the cost of a radio or transponder is roughly obtained. I'm especially interested if anyone has numbers on what certification (both software and hardware) costs, and what kind of tests have to be performed on general aviation hardware.
