Passing out at high altitudes / the Greek ailrliner crash by
[email protected]
I am not a pilot, and as much as my email address sounds like I am a
doctor, I'm not...
That said, I thought someone here might be able to help me out - they
news reports talk about passing out within seconds at high altitudes.
I understand the air is thinner / less O2.
But if I go underwater,...

A Cessna 172 crashed yesterday short of the approach end of RWY 16
killing the pilot and instructor aboard. No cause for the accident has

DUATS and SIDs by
Gary Drescher
I'd like to use DUATS to plan and file routes that include SIDs, but I find
it often doesn't know about them. For instance, when I try to list the SIDs
for KBED, it says there are none; when I try to list the SIDs for KBTV, it
lists only BTV4.BTV (and it doesn't seem to accept manually specified...

their training more difficult, costly and frustrating than it should
be. Our site is designed to help you begin and finish your training in

Quickie Bay Area IFR Practice? by
Jerry
Hello,
My and my slow airplane are based at San Carlos, CA. Got up this
morning, looked out the window - the whole bay is blanketed in coastal
stratus. We get a lot of mornings like that.
Having gotten the rating last year, it sure would be nice to keep
proficient. The usual IFR practice run...

filing stars by
Brad Salai
I'm going to DXR (Danbury) from ROC (Rochester) on Saturday. There is a STAR
for Danbury, NOBBI THREE, that has a transition starting at Rockdale. Here's
the question:
Should I file the STAR, even though it is a little out of the way, or should
I file a more direct route. If I file something more...

Need recommendation on accelerated IFR courses by

Folks !
I am planing to get my IFR ticket. preferably in one of accelerated programs.
I have read about a few but I am still looking for one where they take you
on a cross-country ride to say west-coast or Alaska (I am in east) and you

Only official instrument approaches authorised under FAR? by

There are instrument approaches that are approved by the FAA that are not
available to the general public. The approach plate notes that approach
only applies to aircraft from Company XYZ. You will not find in in any

Solo IFR Currency by
S Herman
Assuming VMC conditions, is it legal for a current IR pilot to file an
IFR flight plan, and fly the flight *solo* wearing a hood, to meet
currency requirements? Of course the hood would be off for take-off
and upon completing an approach with a landing. Not that it's the
safest or smartest way to...

Lost flight plans by

The last two IFR flight plams I've filed via DUATS have been lost. One
was for a trip leaving BFM in Mobile and the other was out of MSN,
Madison, WI. This is the first time in five years this has happened,
and it happened twice in a row. The plans were filed on different
computers.
Anyone else...

Gary IN to CVG? by
Paul kgyy
Considering a flight into CVG, which is Class B and would appreciate
some insight from the group.
1. The IFR routing with STAR is very circuitous - better to file VFR?
2. Reservation required? Flight will be on Saturday.
Any other tips - FBO, etc? Piper Arrow.

"Refusing to Handle You" by

So, an interesting thing happened today. I am at a fly-in at Hagerstown
and about to head back to my home-base at York (THV). I can see from
the PC they had there that there is a line of heavy rain and possibly
thunderstorms blocking my route back. There is no way around it to the
north, but there...
