[email protected]
Been around aviation a long time but a newbie to the soaring community Helping a friend sort out some issues in a motor glider
The Becker 3200 com radio suddenly failed. Was working fine and on the next flight nothing after starting up the engine. Will not power up. I verified that it is...

LS6 (a, b) NEO by
[email protected]
Hello,
here is a post of my friend Benjamin from the German gliding forum:
"Hello, everybody,
about three years ago a friend and I had the chance to develop new ("neo") 15m winglets for the LS8 in cooperation with DG Flugzeugbau. The flight experience with the winglets is quite positive.
Now...

Tow planes and ADS-B Out by
Larry Ruggiero
I realize our operational environments are varied, but what’s the trend for equipping tow planes with ADS-B out? The broad requirement distilled down is that it’s “required in airspace where transponders are required,” which for us is pretty rare. There are relatively easy/cheap (by...

SSA Conventions. Return to every year? by
Burt Compton - Marfa Gliders, west Texas
Seeing old friends, making new friends and putting faces to names in this age of sterile social media communication is a reason why the SSA Directors might consider a return to the annual SSA Conventions of the past. Just because you might be my "friend" on Facebook doesn't necessarily mean that we...

Crazies At The Gliderport by
Bob Youngblood
I recently thought that I had seen it all until someone informed me that a guy was taking his dog for a glider ride. Now please understand I love dogs, have a wonderful Yellow Lab and treat her like our kid. Really never thought dogs and planes went well together, but what in the world would any...

Seminole Lake Glider Port. by
[email protected]
I wonder if someone made a low ball offer for SLGP right now how quickly Mihai would grab it? This could go on for some time to come, no one really knows. I assume that he was "not on the property" during the Seniors as advertised. I guess the excuse will be that the flight restrictions...

Glider Purchase Procedure - Annual & Pre Purchase Inspection? by
NMD
Hello,
I am closing in on my first glider purchase and have narrowed it down to three.
What is a safe purchase procedure for an older glider? Two are LS3's and one is an LS3A. All have been refinished in PU.
Is a new annual sufficient or it is advisable to have a pre-purchase inspection as...

Ventus ballast leak by
wladkummer76
Hi all,
Id like to ask for help here. My Ventus a SN143 right wing ballast is
leaking around the ballast valve actuator rod. I've contacted S&H but
no response so far. I do not know if a O-ring seal would fit in the
small recess.
Have anyone in this group experienced this problem?
Thanks to...

Cambridge Model 20 Issues by
B. Iten
I am (I think) a proud owner of a model 20 which is driving me up the
wall. Yesterday, I was flying our clubs Discus B with my logger
attached under the glare shield. On my flight, after I was off of tow,
the recorder recorded what looked and was shown as engine noise. The
engine noise also showed...

Harder to stall in a steep turn? by
Jim
In his book Gliding, p100, Derek Piggott writes:
"In most modern gliders, the elevator power is not adequate to pull
the wing beyond the stalling angle in a steep bank and it is only just
possible to reach the pre-stall buffet with the stick right back.
This is very different from straight flight...

Does everyone teach this way? by
Dancebert
Does everbody teach soaring the same way? If so, excuse me while I
step outside and scream.
I've had 24 flights with 4 different instructors at two different
schools. (I switched schools quickly after realizing that there are
some places where humans were not meant to be in August) ...

121.5 & Airliners by
Nolaminar
The only time that 121.5 is monitored is over the ocean or very remote areas.
While I can't speak for ALL Carriers, I am pretty sure that none listen in on
121.5 while over the continental US.

Newbie seeking glider purchase advice by
Ted Wagner
I'm a new glider pilot, having just switched my FAI air sport of choice
after 23 years of leaping out of airplanes.
By this summer it is almost certain I'll be purchasing my own glider. I'm
interested in having fun, cross-country (eventually competing), and having
fun, in that order.
I've read...

Will I fit? by
c hinds
I am 6'3" 205 lbs. and currently shopping for a sailplane. I fit OK in
the SGS-1-26, 2-33, Puchacz and can squeeze into a Grob 102 with about
1/2" of clearance to the canopy.
What about Libelle, ASW-15b, DG100, Standard Cirrus, Jantus B ? You
know, all of those "other" sailplanes.
Any and all...

New Parowan Entry List? by

Just checked it at http://parowan.soaringweb.net/Entry.html and I have
made a BIG move, all the way from 50th to 27th ? What happened? It looks as
though Karl has redesignated it as Region 2 West and let in himself and a whole
lot of easterners in. Right on Karl, I like a man who isn't afraid...

Ka6e vs Foka4 by
Janos Bauer
Is there anyone who has experience with both of these sailplanes? They
seems at the same price range but I don't know what would be the
difference during xc flights. What about the maintenance, handling and
any other issues?
Thanks for your advice!
