IGC File Name Decoding Made Easy by
ContestID67
I had a pile of log files of my flights this summer. I typically
transfer files from my flight recorder to my PC via my IPAQ's removable
compact flash (CF) card.
Unfortunately, the IPAQ had the wrong date (year, time, everything) so
it was a little difficult figuring out which log file was which...

Oxymetry. by
W.J. \(Bill\) Dean \(U.K.\).
Peter Saundby has put the following posting on the U.K. u.r.a.s.:
Following the string on oxygen systems, pilots intending to fly at altitude
should be very wary of relying upon oxymetry devices intended for clinical
use to confirm in the air that they are adequately oxygenated. Professor

Google Earth by
ttaylor at cc.usu.edu
If you though Google maps were fun, try Google Earth. It often has
higher resolution than the maps and you can tilt your view into 3D.
Once in 3D, pull with your mouse and then let go and you can fly
over/through the terrain.
Hands down, the best view of the world yet. Can't wait till we...

Motorglider avionics by
HL Falbaum
I just got a DG800B, with Dittel Radio and S-Nav/GPSNav setup. The Battery
is 2 parallel 6v in series w/ 2 more parallel 6 v giving 12v 24 AH. As far
as I can determine this is the standard DG800 setup.
The former owner assures me that the avionics are not bothered by voltage
spikes when starting...

PDA touch screen problems by
Dan
I've had two iPAQ 37xx series go on the blink.
The touch screen goes haywire.
When I try to re align the screen it just goes into a do-loop and never
properly re-sets.
Sometimes it gets better if I keep it turned off for a few weeks, but
that doesn't seem to work now.
Any suggestions?

Soaring over the Scablands by
chris
Just watched the PBS Nova program "Mystery of the Megaflood".
Fascinating program, and the landscape left behind in Eastern
Washington state is beautiful and somewhat bizarre. Is it easy or safe
to fly cross country over the "scabland" features? Are these sights
reachable from Ephrata?
See the...

Badges ? ... We don't need no stinkin' badges by
Doug Snyder
My first BFR is coming up soon. That gives you an idea of how long I've
been flying. At this point, I figure Gold Distance and Duration are
quite doable on a "good" day. Those badges will be challenging, but
within reach. The altitude gain is not impossible, but unlikely where I
fly.
The biggest...

I have a G102 with the l'hotellier connections and the Uerling safety

Electronic versus Pneumatic compensation (follow-up) by

For you instrument installation experts out there, I'd like to pick
your brain if you have a circular tuit.
My new glider (a Ventus 2C) came with a Sage (model CV) vario, Winter
ASI and altimeter, and nothing else that connects to pressure sources.
Last week a Cambridge 302 and a new LX7000 were...

Using European Oxygen Bottle in DG-1000? Where to buy? by
Jeremy Zawodny
I've been reading the messages about the DG-400 oxygen system with some
interest.
In the DG-1000 that I often fly, we have a US oxygen bottle, the AL-647
listed on the Mountain High site:
http://www.mhoxygen.com/index.phtml?nav_id=28&product_id=359
The DG-1000 has a factory made oxygen cut out...

September's Soaring includes the Marfa Report 2004 article that we

held there years ago. Feel free to download the PDFs - these make good
