millenium cylinders and 80 octane by
R. Wubben
I am curious about a situation I haven't encountered before.
I just bought a '62 Cessna 172 with 70 hours on an overhauled 0-300
engine. New millenium cylinders were installed.
Can I, or should I, run on 80 octane or 100LL?
The airport that I'm moving to has 80 octane available (a rarity in
this...

Interior shops by
GFC
Can anyone provide some suggestions on some reasonable interior shops in the Kentucky or adjacent state areas? I know of Air Mod by Sporty's, but they are very expensive. I'm looking for good work at a fair price.
Thanks

Running an 0-235 well beyond TBO by
Paul Folbrecht
How common is this? I am seeing some 152s for sale with engines as high
as 3000 hours SMOH. Surprising. (Well, to me!)
Related question (probably nearly impossible to answer): to what degree
is an engine's reliability related to it's time SMO? Obviously, it has
to be that a Lyc at 2200 hours...

Transponder test after static system opened? by
Jack I
Hi all,
So are you required to get a transponder test any time the static
system has been opened (for VFR flight)?
You are required to get a static/altimeter/xpdr test for IFR flight
any time the static system has been opened (91.411).
91.413 refers to maintenance on the transponder (and...

GPSMAP 195 or 196 by

The 195 looks even taller than the Apollo, so it may not be so good. I
have a Cherokee 140 with bowtie yokes. Any good/bad reports in yoke
mounting either unit?
I have a 195...

mixing 80 and 100 and autogas...? by
R. Wubben
Reviewing some of the old posts on rec.aviation.owning, it appears
that the conventional wisdom is that mixing of the gases is ok.
What I foresee is that I can get 80 at my home field, but will need to
top off or completely fill up with 100LL as I go along. Is this truly
ok?
Are people still...

Damn, The Archer ain't ever going to be good enough again! by

Was in the Bay Area near San Fransciso last week and called an old friend to
see if he wanted to go flying. Great, he says, meet me at my office at 4:00
PM and we'll go up. It's an absolutely beautiful afternoon. Cloudless sky,
little haze, no wind, and green everywhere (it's the two weeks after...

Seat belt tags by
Stephen Stilkey
Just finished the annual inspection on my 1963 172 this afternoon. It was
the first time I had used this A+P to inspect my plane. I assisted and
things went smoothly. It's interesting that a "new" set of eyes can see
things that have been overlooked in the past. Anyway, the seat belts no
longer...

Mystery avionics identification??? by
Steve
Well, it's a mystery to me anyway. Does anyone know what brand and model,
the nav/com, loran, adf, and dme are in the following photo? I'm sure the
top nav/com is Collins vhf-251 and 351, but the nav/com below that one? And
the others? Also, can anyone identify the transponder in the second...

Oil Analysis by
PaulaJay1
I've been having my oil analysis with
Cleve Technical Center. Their charge was $18.40.
They are now charging a $25 minimum. They offer 10 prepaid
for $155. These charges seem high and I think that I remember
some others getting oil analysis at a lesser cost.
Comments?
