Seeking towplanes for Region 9 by [email protected]
I am casting the net one more time for one more towplane for the Region 9 contest at Turf Soaring (aka Pleasant Valley Airport, P48), May 29 - June 3. The contest host is requiring a $1M tow-for-hire liability policy. Beyond that, we are begging for just one more tug. Ferry fuel, hotel, cold suds...

Anti-glare covers for Ipaq - Do they work? by TTaylor at cc.usu.edu
I recently upgraded from an Ipaq 3760 to an Ipaq 3950 series PDA. I noticed the screen is brighter, but also I am getting more glare in the cockpit. Have others tried the anti-glare screen protectors and do they help? Thanks , Tim

Colorado Border to Border Challenge by Birdbones
A reminder that anyone that wants to participate in this summer long informal, simple (not the task) competition needs to sign up at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ChaffeeSoaring/ . The rules and prizes are in the "files" and registration is in "database". Currently there are only six entrants....

Favourite quotes about flying by David Starer
Here are two of my favourite quotes about flying; what are yours? 1. Flying is learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss. Douglas Adams 2. Try to stay in the middle of the air. Do not go near the edges of it. The edges of the air can be recognized by the appearance of ground,...

During the summer of 1999, several US Team members rented cars with tow hook from Europcar at the Frankfort airport. Mine was a great VW station wagon.

LX5000 DATABASE by Gordon Schubert
I bought my glider with an LX5000 logger. I know that nothing has been updated for at least 5 years as far as the database. Do I delete the database that is already on the logger and then just copy a new USA database? Or do I download the new database? Will it overwrite what is already there or...

Catheter question by 303SAM
I've always been a ziplock man myself but the recent thread got me considering catheters. My ship has a fitting for connecting a catheter. The fitting is connected to a tube that ends at the trailing edge of one of the gear doors. The fitting has a rubber O-ring and looks like another fitting on...

more than ten bucks for a magazine by [email protected]
I've been tracking auctions for copies of Soaring Magazine for the past few months. Something comes up for sale about once a week, which is more than I would have expected for such a minor periodical. The biggest surprise I have seen so far is the bidding war over a 1949 issue; the price went to...

Polarized Instrument Display by Rick
I recently bought some new polarized prescription glasses and have found that when I look directly at the display screen on my LX5000, I can't see anything. I can see it better if I turn my head and look obliquely at it (not really practical). I suspect the screen has a polarization on...
