Using Excel or Access to keep track of students/records? by
BoDEAN
Any CFI's here use Excel or Access on their computer to keep a log of
their students and information on them and what you've covered with
them?
IF so, can you provide some tips on what a good starting ground would
be for designing a spreadsheet to do this.
Thanks

Garmin DME arc weidnress by
Dave Touretzky
I recently flew my first DME arc transition using my Garmin GNS-530.
It's always fun and challenging to figure out what the Garmin thinks
it's doing; see my list of "Garmin gotchas" for examples:
http://www-2.cs.cmu.edu/~dst/Garmin/
Below is the newly-added entry on my DME arc experience.

Passed checkride... yay! by
[email protected]
Just figured I'd share. It's been interesting reading these
threads as I've been working towards the ticket. Now, to figure out what
my personal mins are while keeping the shiny side up...
As is usually said of a new rating... a "license to learn," I
guess. :)

"Stand Alone" Boxes (Garmin 430) - Sole means of navigation - legal? by
Richard
Probably this has been answered in this forum previously, but I can't find
it. Sorry.
I recently got into a friendly discussion with a knowledgable CFII who said
a Garmin 430 could not be legally used as "sole means of navigation".
Looking back, I think what he means is that "GPS" (even IFR...

Don Brown and lat-long by
Bob Gardner
I know Don Brown. He is a good 'ol country boy, and an entertaining writer, but he is not a pilot. His aviation world is circumscribed by the AIM and Air Traffic Control Handbook, with no latitude (no pun intended) allowed. His Avweb column about filing IFR is almost perfect, but there are...

Most Challenging Instrument Approaches in Western US? by
Angus Davis
I am curious to hear this group's thoughts on the most challenging
instrument approaches in the Western US. Perhaps this not the best way
to phrase the question, because I am planning a trip with a fellow
instrument student and our instructor around the Western US this winter,
similar to those...

WxWorx continued by
Dan Luke
Today the Sony VAIO PCG-TR1AP notebook arrived, so I was able to install
WxWorx on it and add the GPS map option.
The Sony is a dandy little machine. It's about 10.5"x7"x2" folded up. The
screen is 10.6" diag. and, as advertized, very bright. It was easily
viewable in the car when I took it for a...

Hankal
This maybe slightly off topic, but
Any of the members have an AvMap GPS.
I have some questions and willing to discuss it off line
if it should be discussed on this board

Flight Checks by
Mark Jackson
Our airport (KAXH Houston-Southwest) had a LOC-DME approach. According to
the airport management, the Feds came in a shut it down because the
equipment was so old that they couldn't test it anymore. New equipment was
ordered and installed, etc. etc. We are now waiting for the FAA to flight
test...

Weather for wireless PDA by

Do any of the new weather services like WXworx work on a wireless PDA like
the Palm Tungsten or the Blackberries?
How about plain old downloads from the net to these devices- is it usable or
practical? I'm thinking about getting either a Tungsten or color Blackberry
primarily for business email,...

ILS instrument accuracy? Help...... by
TripFarmer
I'm just starting to work on my Instrument Rating and yesterday when doing an
ILS approach I was keeping the localizer centered and my instructor told me to
look up about a mile out. We were maybe 200 yards off the centerline. Next
one we stayed on the centerline (visually) and the needle was 1/2...

FAR 91.171 interpretation by
James L. Freeman
What is the point of the phrase "at the airport of intended departure"
in FAR 91.171(b)(1)?
Interpreted literally, it would mean that while the VOR check done
with a VOT is good for 30 days, it is only valid for departures from
the airport where it was done. That makes no sense. Any...
