Helicopter Designations by
David R Townend
The Second Revised Edition of "Military Aircraft Designations and Systems"
from AeroFile Publications still has copies available, however, we are
getting close to the end of our printing run. I am sure that if we expected
the kind of response we have had, we would have budgeted for...

where's the THRILL in flying? (read this one) by
BW
I was searching through some past articles trying to answer the above
question and came across someone who wrote this:
"I can tell you that the thrill of soloing, being THE ONLY ONE in
charge of your continued success, is the thrill of a life time"
You might have guessed that this person was a...

I am a researcher, and NO it that wasn't a spam. Only moments before,
I'd been talking to some country dancers and hence my error. So please
read on - this is how it should have read.... (but if there are pilots
out there who...

Is there a FAA Manual for Heli flight examiners? gps required? by
Eric D
Is there a FAA issued manual for helicopter designated flight
examiners? If yes, is it somewhere online? Friend of mine wants to
be sure he has all requirements met for taking his flight exam.
Different flight instructors tell him he needs different things before
taking his check ride. He would...

AH64 tail rotor by
CivetOne
Hi Tim,
When Hughes Tool Co., Aircraft Division experimented with the OH-6A to make it
very quiet, the engineers knew that a big source of noise was the tail rotor.
To make the tail rotor quieter, they decided to increase the blade area and
decrease the rpm. The most convenient (i.e., least...

Is there a FAA Manual for Heli flight examiners? gps required? by
Eric D
GPS: If a piece of equipment is installed in the machine that will
be used in a checkride the PIC must know its functionality and be able
to demonstrate its use. For a private checkride there's no requirement
to know GPS use unless its installed and not marked inop before the
ride....

Kamov folding helicopter? by
Mr.Twistair
Joss, this heli is slightly described at http://twistairclub.narod.ru
including photos of it's step-by-step unfolding. It wasn't ever flown. The
main reason why is mostly explained as "no suitable engine which would fit
this design that time". I've heard that it was designed to be powered by
small...
