Other forces testing US aircraft by
Jim
Over the years there have been several articles online and in print
regarding aircraft from the former Warsaw Pact brought to the USA for
testing. Some even seeing use in dissimilar exercises.
What I've never heard of though is the Russians or Chinese, (others?)
doing the same with our equipment....

The F-100 had an interesting ground starting option, a large chamber
that received a large gas generating cartridge. When ignited by
electrical current, the expanding gas from the black powder-like
pyrotechnic cartridge drove a starter turbine which brought the engine
up to a self-sustaining rpm...

CV-17 Bunker Hill retirement? by

I was looking through Stefan Terzibaschitsch's book Aircraft Carriers of the
US Navy and I see that CV-17 Bunker Hill was withdrawn from service in 1947
and essentially stayed in mothballs until 1966. She was used as an immobile
electronics research ship during that time.
Does anybody know why...
