PDA GPS: Anywhere Map vs. NavGPS Pro vs ?? by
C Kingsbury
OK, y'all are probably getting sick of all my GPS questions these days but
I'll go to the well one more time.
I may or may not get a panel-mount IFR GPS for my 172, that's a separate
issue. Decided I want a portable GPS to use as a backup and for sit.
awareness in IMC. Also decided I want...

Things to put in the "remarks" section of the flight plan by
C. J. Clegg
When filing a flight plan (VFR or IFR), and you are carrying some
non-aviation-type backup means of communications such as an FRS/GMRS
radio or an amateur VHF radio, is it worth it to put in the "Remarks"
something like "Amateur 146.52 MHz, GMRS Channel 1"?
I'm sure that if you go down, the CAP or...

Spirit Airlines by
C. Massey
Anyone here ever used Spirit Airlines?
I just happened to see that they must be new at DFW and visited their
website. Pretty cheap fares.
DFW/Ft Lauderdale $59
DFW/Jamaica $89
Just wondering if it's worth saving a couple of bucks by using them?

Maintenance Questions by
C. Massey
Cousin has a glider and said that he needs to add fluid in compass.
Is this something that can be done? If so, can he do it or does an A&P have
to do it? What is the fluid?
Also, he is also wanting to replace the tubing between the pitot tube and
the instrument. Again, can he do this or does an...

BSA - Aviation Explorers by
C. Massey
My son is in Boy Scouts and interested in aviation. His scout leader (or
even the BSA) doesn't have very much information on the explorer program so
I have decided to take the task on myself.
I spoke with the president of our local EAA chapter and he is very
interested in getting an explorer post...

Restored B-17 Flying video by
C. Massey
I tried to give Jay first dibs on this video, but apparently he doesn't want
it.
It's a fully restored B-17 and the video (shot about 1 week ago) shows the
engines starting, takeoff, flying and the landing. It's 56 meg and almost 14
minutes long. Pretty cool...

A third party, (non-compensated) review or or opinions

Passed the checkride, now I need a good GPS, and passenger headset by
C. Osbourne
YIPPEE! I'm now a private pilot!
I took and passed, the private pilot checkride on Tuesday.
What a relief! It wasn't nearly as bad as I thought I'd
be, and went very well.
Now I need an aviation GPS and 'Guest Headset', and I'm
hoping that readers of this list will have recommendations
about...

Looking for a (freeware) program to create a cross country navigation log by
C. Osbourne
Anyone know where I could get a downloadable, or freeware
program to assist in filling out a cross country navigation
form? Yes, I know we have to do that manually, but in the
learning process it'd be a great help to have a way to check
our answers for saneness.
If you can point me in the...

Sleeping on long flights - What's the secret? by
C. Osbourne
Hi,
I'm going on some long flights soon, and would
really like to do some sleeping during the flights.
But somehow, I can't seem to get comfortable enough
to get to sleep. I'm 6'3" 280 lbs, and the tiny
seats are -very- uncomfortable after a few hours.
(can't afford 1st class)

High or low wing? by
C. Paul Williams, MD
Hi, I'm new to this group and new to piloting, just having passed my
private pilot FAA written and about halfway through flight school.
I'm training in a Cessna 172SP and have a question for the experienced
pilots out there. Do you prefer flying a high wing or low wing
aircraft and why?...I...

FARs concerning operations in foreign country by
[email protected]
Hi!
I`m considering to buy a Columbia 400 for private and business
purposes. The aircraft will be N-registered, although operated in
Germany (which is legally possibly using a trust i.e.).
As I`m planning to earn my Commercial certificate, I was wondering
whether there were any FARs which prevent...

Pilot Compensation - FAR 61.113 by
CAE
Hi All,
Here's a question for all the FAR/AIM experts:
Each year our childrens' school has a charity auction to raise money
for various events, services, and equipment. My wife had the idea that
I could donate a one hour flight, which could be auctioned for the
benefit of the school.
I'm...

Getting [re]started in flying by
Cal Vanize
30+ years ago (a long, long time ago in a galaxy far, far away) I was an
active pilot in my early 20s. I held a CASMELI, CFI and CGI A&I
tickets. Had 1100+ hours PIC mostly in single engine with about 4o0 or
so in light twins. Circumstances in life (not medical) changed my
direction and I...

Jobs for pilots wtih CP + IR? by

I was wondering how difficult it is to find work as a pilot

I'm assuming most companies require minimums in the neighborhood
