Annuals are such fun by
[email protected]
Got a call from the mechanic "fuel cap gaskets are worn, need
replacement" me: fine, replace gaskets
Another call from mech "uhh, no part number on the fuel caps, not
normal piper part, therefore no approved gasket can be found, have to
replace caps AND gaskets" me: OK, I guess no...

PA-28 Glareshield Replacement by
Marco Leon[_4_]
What are the options out there for replacing the glareshield fabric on Piper
Cherokees? Specifically, I have a 1978 Warrior that has some badly-faded
fabric though the tears seem to be minimal. I know I'll need to have the A&P
remove the windshield but the weatherproofing seems to be coming out...

HID Lamps; Your opinions and experience by
[email protected]
As I get older, and I find myself needing more and more light as the
lenses in my eye darken, I have noticed a definite need for more light
on night landings. My eye doc has recommended waiting a while on the
cataract surgery, as they are not so bad yet. Given that, I think
having a better view of...

An Odyssey into Ownership (Part 1) by
Grumman 46U
Hello, all. Since there always seem to be questions on the group,
both mechanical and philosophical, about purchasing an aircraft, I
thought you might be interested in one pilot's odyssey from renter to
owner. During that trip, I have lurked here, read volumes about
purchasing and owning, and...

Lycoming O-360 oil suction screen torque by
[email protected]
Hi,
I'm looking for the torque specification for the oil suction screen (the one
near the bottom of the engine) for a Lycoming O-360. It's the A4A model. I'm
planning on inspecting the suction screen on the next oil change.
Thx!

Copper in oil analysis ? by

Peter wrote:
I've just had a big increase in copper; wonder where copper comes
from. The engine is an IO-540-C4D5D, 500 hrs since new in 2002.
I had the same thing happen. Copper comes from brass bushings. In my
case the wrist pin broke in the middle and the bushing was being
destroyed. I...

Skytec starters for 0-470s??? by
Guy Byars
I am considering upgrading the starter in my 182P Skylane with the new
Sky-Tec flyweight starter. It looks like it will spin the prop faster -w-
less power.
Does anyone have experience with the Sky-Tec flyweight starter in an O-470
engine?

It's finally done and flying once again. by
Louis L. Perley III
Well, I finally was able to go up and pick up N46000 from Akron today
(I was on a cruise last week even though it's been declared "done" for
two weeks or so, this was the first day I could get away)
Some minor things were found after driving up there to fly it back
(people who'd offered me ride...

'Hot' cylinder after overhaul? by
Tony Cox
Since a major overhaul about 60 tach hours ago now,
I've noticed my #3 cylinder (O470R, 182) is running
consistently hot. It is typically 30-40 degrees warmer than
the average, which puts it at 4-bars in the EDM700
display. To keep this cylinder temp down, I'm having to
leave the cowl flaps open in...

Owner replacement of Nav/Comm Radios by
endre
I am reading the FARs and am having a hard time figure out whether I
can slide out my old radios and have them upgraded and put them back
in. Slide in and out only no wiring or changing the shelf itself. Or
do I need A&P inspection?

Buying a used COMM by
res
I want to buy a used COMM that is working (with all the accesories needed)
It is not going to be mounted i n a plane, itīs only for my home. Iīd prefer
a better price than a newer one, so an old COMM could be accepted.
Thanks

74 Archer Nav light switch by

Any advice on how to change a nav light on/off switch. It's attached to the
roller knob that also controls the panel lights. I don't see any obvious
way to remove it from the front, and the back is not easy to get a look at
while lying next to the rudder pedals. I can get the lights to come on...

Flew to dinner today with an outside temp of 10F. Auto pilot worked OK on the

hours. The autopilot didn't work on the way back. You could feel the clutch
take hold but no corrective action to follow the bug. Simple roll...

TBO Questions O-200 by
Carl Orton
I'm getting conflicting information, so pitch in to set me straight.
In the archives, I've seen several instances where owners have claimed
taking their O-200's over 3000 hrs before overhaul. I believe that with
regular oil analysis, this could probably be true. HOWEVER, I've seen other
posts...
