First Plane to Restore.... by Steve
Right now, I am currently in school to get my AME licence. The college I am at is looking to get rid of a Cessna AgWagon airframe (full control, partial intrumentation, great condition). Since restoration is the niche I want to get into, I was wondering if the AgWagon is a bit too complicated for...

Horizontal Stab. rusted on stubs by Michael Horowitz
I'm taking apart the tailfeathers of a Tcraft. Elevator came of fine. The two halves of the horizontal stabalizor slip over a fore and aft piece of tubing that is welded to the fuselage. The Cub does the same. The leading edge connection came apart without problem, but the trailing connection is...

Old American solid rivets by Matt
Hi all, A slightly unusual question to pose to you all. I was wondering if anyone might know if the old A17 series (S and ST) solid rivets had a more domed head on them than the current AN470/MS20470 series do? Would be interested to hear any thoughts on this. Many thanks and have a great...

Can anyone provide any information on a Finnish JU-88 which was supposedly recovered from an unkown lake some 100 km south of Leningrad (these days St Petersburg)in Russia in the 90's and now resides somewhere in New Zealand? The plane apparently ditched in late 1944. Any info greatly...

What is a Doyne Apache? by JAX
I've seen some Apaches listed that are 'Doyne conversions' but I can't find what the conversion involved, except maybe 180hp engines. I know about Geronimos, but what exactly makes up a Doyne conversion Apache?

Bf 109F by Tri-Pacer
I saw an ad in my current Trade-a-Plane for a "new from the factory" Bf 109F still in its original shipping crate as manufactured in 1942. Has anyone heard anything about this find? I wonder if it's a scam? What a find--wow. Cheers: Paul

Welding question by Mike
At http://www.taylorcraft.info/tcraft/proj207.jpg we see a restored tailsection. The bushing appears to have first been welded to a plate, and the plate in turn welded to the tailpost. Is that what was done? Is this done to help with alignment of the bushing? - Mike

Auto Fuel Residue by Stu Gotts
Okay gurus, this may be a simple one so here goes. I just bought a project aeroplane and it's obvious the guy was using auto fuel in it. It's been sitting for about 8 years and there's that great auto fuel residue all in the tanks, selector valve (frozen), I'm sure in the lines and I don't even...

Questions on covering by Ed
My Decathlon is in annual right now, and needs some repairs to the original dope-on-Ceconite finish. Our new A&P doesn't have much experience with fabric work, so he sought advice from others. I'm feeling uneasy about the answers he got. A couple of questions for those with paint and fabric...

Market Beacon Antenna - Can I paint? by Tom
I have been restoring my Maule Aircraft and removed a pretty oxidized and "boat" type antenna from the belly. It was working perfectly when the aircraft was dismantled and there is no decal saying "do not paint" as with some other types of antennas. Anyone know if this is paintable? Tom

40,000 volunteer restoration hours going to waste? by Corrie
The last B-36 Peacemaker ever built, #52-827, needs your help. This magnificent airplane sat outside in the Texas weather for decades, subject to the summer sun, winter rains, birds, and vandals. Years of dedicated effort (44,000 hours) has restored the magnificent bird to near-new static-display...
