Euro vs Contrafund, or how to buy a glider (affordably) by
[email protected]
On Nov. 15, 2004 I posted a message suggesting that you invest your
money in a mutual fund with an excellent track record (i.e. Fidelity
Contrafund) and wait until your $70K initial investment grows to match
the current price of the glider. Here is an update on that strategy:
Euro: $1.2944...

Training in New Zealand by
Steve Traut
Hello all -- Does anyone have recommendations for clubs for an American
pilot to study with while in New Zealand?
I'm a student glider pilot near to solo, expecting to get a license in
the U.S. by June or so. I'm thinking ahead to a New Zealand trip I'm
planning for Jan or Feb. I'd like to spend a...

LX1000 Wiring Diagram by
Luke Roberts
Does anyone have a manual, or wiring diagram for the
Avionic Dittel LX1000 vario. I have one with various
wires hanging off it, but some have been cut off.
A simple numbered chart for the 15 pin (DB15) plug
would be fine.
Thanks, Luke

Swivel On Winch Cable by
John Sp
Tost's cable handling notes prohibet the use of a swivel between the cable
and winch parachute They say it destroys the multistrand cable.- Swivel is
only to be used for towing out.
THis is counter intuitive - can anyone offer an explanation why this is so?
Thanks
John Spargo

Hi All,

from www.condorsoaring.com.
Having played it for a good few hours it seems
pretty damn good (and no, I'm not on commision or in
any way related to the development team ;-) ). The
scenery is lovely, the planes feel right (having never
flown...

Colibri Failures. by
Stan Kochanowski
Martin,
I had a similar problem with my old GR1000.
This was due to (rechargable) internal battery failure
- which needed to be topped up regularly - every month
in practice.
The Colibri has a Lithium internal battery which 'will
need to be replaced after several years'.

Finish Gate Accident no. 2 by
Justin Craig
As a pilot who practices high speed low finishes, I
think that attention needs to be drawn to the fact
that 85knots is simply not fast enough when finishing
at 50 ft. At that speed, the height gained from a pull
is not going to be enough to complete a safe circuit.
I would agree that this low...

Winter Mech Vario Bezel by
Mike Hostage
I want to mount a Winter mechanical vario in my glider.
It has a bezel ring around the face that is wider
than the standard 3 1/8' diameter of the face. Anyone
have a clue as to how to remove the bezel, so the instrument
can be mounted to the panel? I don't see any obvious
keys/slots/or breaks in...

Hydration/Dehydration/'Overhydration'. by
Stan Kochanowski
Gentlefolk,
You need to be careful with rehydration - especially
in tropical climes.
Your body loses salt as well as water when you sweat
and if you replace only with pure water, eventually
you will develop 'water intoxication'.
This is, actually, not easy to achieve in a few hours

Hydration/Dehydration/'Overhydration'. by
Stan Kochanowski
Mike,
I am not aware of this theory - which does not, in
the least, mean that it does not exist - especially
now that I am no longer current in Medicine.
However, sodium is, predominantly, an extracellular
ion (potassium is predominantly intracellular) - which
makes it relatively easy to lower...

Jantar Std. 3 by
[email protected]
The SZD dealer from Canada, the Windpath Corp. is attempting to sell
brand new SZD48-3 Jantar Std. 3. The deal is that Jantar is a excellent
Sport Class glider. I think at this point and time the price is above
30,000 Euros but if the Windpath could find couple more buyers the
price will go under...

HP-18 project flown 1500 hours with trailer by
Victor Bravo
Up for auction on ebay now is an HP-18 project. It has flown 1500 hours
but needs a complete rebuild. It NEEDS either wing contouring or use it
as a "quickbuild" kit for a Super-18 with the fuselage, tail, wing
spars and controls already built. Comes with a very good Gehrlein open
heavy duty...

Book with sailplane airfoils? by
Scott
Anybody have a good title for a book showing good airfoils for
sailplanes (preferable ones good for ultralight sailplanes)? One with
coordinates for those airfoils would be great!

Region 5N Perry, SC # 711 reporting by
[email protected]
When you have the chance, you just gotta do Perry sometime, somehow,
someyear. The Perry Soaring group has about 7 members. They put on a
very well run show. The meals, the folks, along with all the camp fire
talk make Perry a must. Practice day saw some good weather. Lift was
3-4 kts., and some...
