Butterfly iGlide by
Reed von Gal
Does anybody have experience with this software? It looks really cool
but seems geared towards the European crowd without any airspace/
turnpoint data for the U.S.
I know Winpilot is working on an ipod/ipad version but I want to check
this software out in the meantime.

Competition Instruction at Minden by
John Godfrey (QT)[_2_]
It has been a real pleasure to do the Open Class Nationals at Minden. The excellent infrastructure and capabiliies of Laurie Harden and the Soaring NV operation and staff
really makes it easy to conduct the contest on a public airport. Having the enthusiastic support of airport management is a...

Chapstick In Water Dump Valves by
Dan Marotta
On Sunday, returning from a flight, I pulled the wing dump lever in my
LAK-17a (the tail tank was already dumping) and it didn't feel like both
valves opened. I carried some extra speed through the landing and, after
stopping, the left wing went down. A friend on the ground later confirmed...

Sporting Code Question by
Peter von Tresckow
Hi, a few weeks ago we had some great WX here in WI, and I was flying with a
friend and we got the Blanik up to 8000' MSL which (sadly) qualifies us for
the State Two Seater Absulute Altitude and Altitude Gain records.
Now the SC states that no declaration is required for altitude records...

distance records by
Ron Gleason
There are a group of HG pilots in Zapata TX for the month of July to break the straight out distance record for HG's.
Five went for it today and there are two still flying, 9 pm CDT, that have passed the current record and they will be forced to land by 9:31 to stay legal. They are flying with...

EW Microrecorder External Power by
[email protected]
I tried connecting my EW logger to external 12V power from the glider per instructions in the manual. Current draw was reasonable (150-250 mA), but the unit became extremely hot (I couldn't hold it) and it stopped working for the rest of the day. The next day it functioned normally.
Does anyone...

External Mic for Handheld Transceiver by
Duster
I have an ICOM handheld transceiver that I use in gliders, but want to
configure a hands-free push-to-talk system w/external mic. My problem
is coming up with a good microphone that works with this. Attempts at
using mics with the minijack input has yielded poor voice transmission
compared with the...

Measured current draw, PowerFlarm Brick by
Evan Ludeman[_4_]
PF manual does not list typical power consumption. Because PowerFlarm
can supply power to other devices, this is a variable figure. The
manual says only "up to 1.2 Watts", or 1 amp at 12V. That's rather a
lot, so I decided to check. My PF brick is connected to a Butterfly
57mm flarm panel...

More Vario Questions - ClearNav by

So as not to help hijack the Butterfly/V7 thread... Does anyone have
comments on the ClearNav vario? I'm looking for better wind info than
my LNav gives.

electrical smokepod ignition wiring by
Roel Baardman
Hi,
I'm in the process of install the wiring to electrically ignite smokepods on the wingtips of my Pilatus B4.
I currently have small holes in the plates at my wingtip and wingroot, and a small metal wire is pulled through the most-front hole in the wing-ribbs. This
was all performed by a...

2200k at 194.66kph is this a speed record? by
joesimmers[_2_]
I just noticed my friend Devin Bargainnier did just under 2200k at a whopping 194.66kph yesterday out of minden!
I have not gotten to speak to him yet but I have to imagine
this is some kind of a speed record?
Nice job Devin!

Time-lapse of soaring club launch operation by
Paul Remde
Hi,
Today I took a fun video showing the launch operation at the Minnesota
soaring club on May 12, 2012 from about 11 AM to 3:15 PM. It is much more
fun flying gliders than it would appear from the video.
It turned out to be a pretty good soaring day despite the lack of cumulus
clouds. Fred...

New EU regulations by
Ben[_4_]
I was planning on flying in a few places on an upcoming trip to
Europe. Now I am told there are new EASA regulations limiting PIC to
only those who have passed an EASA medical and hold an appropiate
EASA license.
Wow! Sure puts a knot in my plans. Is there no reciprocity with the
US?
Is there...

Fuselage dolly with over center jack - looking for picture by
Tim Taylor
Many years ago I saw a picture of a fuselage dolly that had an over
center mechanism to raise and lower the glider. I believe it was on
two place glider. The wheels stayed in place on the ramp and the
fuselage went up and down about four inches. Anyone have a link to
the photo or know the...
