Fuel pump cooling shroud? by Jim Burns
Recently we had to replace one of the mechanical fuel pumps on our Aztec due to a leaking diaphragm. When talking to several A&P's about the expected life of these pumps and the cause of failure, most sited heat transfer from the accessory case to the pump and lack of cooling being the primary...

Fuel Selector Valve by Tom Cummings
We were doing the annual on a 1973 Cessna 172M today and discovered the fuel selector valve would not shut off the fuel - in any postion. The handle is not slipping on the shaft and there is mechanical connect through the linkage. The detents can be felt in each position and we can visually see the...

Fuel sender gaskets??? by mikem
I'm replacing the fuel sender gaskets to cure a leak. The old gaskets show evidence of extrusion due to overtightening the screws. How tight should the screws be? (Tight enough to seal, but not tight enough to deform/cut the gasket?) Should I use any form of gasket cement between the steel face...

Fuel servo output problem (long) by Jim Burns[_2_]
PA32R-300 Lance with factory fresh Lycoming OH IO540-K. After installing a JPI 800, with fuel flow transducer, the factory Piper and the JPI fuel flow only indicate 5-6gph fuel flow with the electric boost pump rather than the normal 10gph during normal start procedures. The engine driven...

Fuel servo problem??? by Robert M. Gary
Today I went out to my plane to fly and found a very odd problem. When I started the plane after taxiing over the fuel, I could only get it to run when the mixture was just at the edge of idle cut off. Moving it even 1/8 forward caused the engine to die right away. I did some diagnostics. At 1500...

Fuel Tanks C172 by [email protected]
I have a 68 C172 with the 38 gal tanks. I do not want to put a fuel tank in the baggage compartment. Has anyone done the mod to change the wing tanks to Cessna Long Range tanks or AC Conversion Tech out of Calif. If so how hard was it. Also I think that the Flint tanks are too much work and too...

Fuel Transfer Placards by Ben Smith
Hello - I'm starting to purchase parts one-by-one to build a mogas fuel transport trailer, and noticed something about the pump, and filters. The 12v Fill-Rite transfer pump I'm looking at has a tag on it that reads something like: "Warning: Not for refueling of aircraft". And, the spin on...

Fuel Truck by Mike Rapoport
I would like to buy a fuel truck! 5,000 to 10,000 gallon preferred. I have been watching ebay and rbauction.com and I was wondering if anyone knew of other sources? How can I find out if the government is selling one? Thanks! Mike MU-2

Fuel Valves, Wing Tips, And You by RST Engineering
There has been much discussion about Home Depot fuel valves, homebrew wingtips, and the like. There has been much discussion about what is and what is not allowed by the regulations. Finally, somebody at the highest echelons of the FAA in Washington is trying to put some sense back in the...

Fueling items--17 May auction, Colorado Springs by Douglas Paterson
Very short notice, I realize, but I just found out about this myself. A local "family fun center" (arcade, mini golf, bumper cars, etc.) in Colorado Springs, CO, has gone under & is auctioning everything (literally--the real estate, too) tomorrow, Thursday, 17 May...

Full-throttle Take Off in Mooney M20J by Evan Salant
I have read conflicting recommendations for take-off power in a M20J. Some people seem to suggest that it's best to reduce MP/RPM to 25/2500 after 500 feet, while others suggest full throttle/2600 until cruise altitude reached. Any thoughts ?

A few more details on my Arrow buying adventure this weekend. Sorry, no pictures posted yet but I did send a couple to Jay H. for an appropriate update (as in "Jay, could you do me a favor and replace the picture of the rental C-172 with pictures of much nicer airplane"). Saturday: Flew...

Fundamentals of Stall Recovery by w3n-a
http://w3n-a.blogspot.com/2008/12/fundamentals-of-stall-recovery.html Stall accidents usually result from an inadvertent stall at a low altitude in which a recovery was not accomplished prior to contact with the surface. As a preventive measure, stalls should be practiced at an altitude which will...

Future of 480 by Robert M. Gary
I was talking to an avionics guy the other day who was turning people away from the 480. His reasoning is that Garmin orders the required chips in bulk lots and once they are gone they are gone. Since the 480 install base is smaller than the 430/530 and since it does not seem that Garmin wants to...

Just thought I'd put out a little FYI for everyone in the NG's about the Aviation Expo coming to my home airport in June. http://www.canadianaviationexpo.com/ I'm in no way associated with the expo, and have nothing to gain by posting it here, except perhaps the opportunity to meet a few...
