Plans for a small tug/tow device for C172? by DK
Anyone seen any plans for an electric tug for a 172? I can get my hands on a motor, but not sure how much horsepower it should have, or really have a plan of attack for putting something together. Yes, our 172 does need a tug. We just got a new hangar, and you have to push it up a bit of an...

Canadian jet licence by Steve
What are the requirements in Canada to hold a rating to fly small jets like this (http://www.aircraft.com/listings/forsale/Detail.asp?PID=118154&guid=o17lg8w 0&pcid=1229918&etid=1&OHID=1061082&setype=1&nh=0). I know they are out of my reach right now because I only have a PPL. I assume the ATPL...

TV episode: terrorists+ultralights by David Reinhart
"Sue Thomas: FBI" ran the first of a two part show tonight that has terrorists getting ready use ultralights (Did you know they come in big packing cases marked "ultralight"?) to spread bubonic plague. Just the sort of program we need. Dave Reinhart

Flying w/faulty gas gauge by Yossarian
I understand that functional fuel gauges are required equipment for day VFR flight. Yesterday during my preflight in a 172 I saw that the right gauge was functioning intermittently--it would show full, flicker down to zero, bounce around, etc. Tank was visually confirmed full. Mechanic...

Flying Restricted Airspace by H.J.
If I want to fly in some restricted airspace - nevermind the reason - how is that done? The chart says the controlling authority is ZLC Center. That's Salt Lake ARTCC, right? So if I'm flying VFR, what do I do? Do I find any low alt freq to the SLC ARTCC in the AF/D and call "Salt Lake Center....

Short trip to Oshkosh by Trent Moorehead
Greetings, Well, I went to Oshkosh last week and loved it. I spent about three hours in the museum, not nearly enough, but it was enough to get a feel of the place. The place was dead though. There was about 4 other people in the place besides my friend and I. In a way this was neat because I...

Portable Carbon Monoxide Detectors by Cecil E. Chapman
Anyone try any of those battery powered carbon monoxide detectors I see in pilot shops for about $50. Are they worthwhile? The reason I am asking, is that I'm wondering whether it is possible to hear one go off with headsets on in a relatively 'noisy' G.A. aircraft? Recommendations? -- -- Good...

Midair in RI by Martin
http://www.msnbc.com/local/wvit/A1880294.asp Has anyone heard anything more than whats in that article? Doesnt make much sense, 100ft over the runway, and the piper was landing... maybe he saw the cessna taking off and tried a go-around, only to have the cessna come up under him in the blind...

Is the DC ADIZ on the charts? by Snowbird
from AVWeb: "Frankly, we're a bit frustrated that pilots are still violating it, and we don't know why," the FAA's William Shumann told AVweb yesterday. "It's on the charts, it's on our Web site." *Is* the DC ADIZ on the charts? Not on websites, on actual VFR sectionals and TACs? Thanks!

100 Hour Inspection Question by FryGuy
I have a question around a 100 hour inspection requirement. I've had time blocked off at my local FBO for over a month to take a plane this Saturday. Me and another pilot buddy are taking up the coast of North Carolina and are going to hit the airports in the Outer Banks and go to the museum...

Mounting my GPS by Charles Talleyrand
I have a C-150 and a Garmin GPS Pilot III. Right now it's mounted on above the interment panel near (but not too close) to the compass. I would like to mount it on the yoke. Does anyone have any experience with yoke mounts on a 1966 Cessna 150? Will normal yoke mounts work well? Must I really...

Iowa City Is On The Kitty Hawk Tour by Jim Weir
We're going to be hard-pressed to go far enough north to be in Iowa City on the trip back to Kitty Hawk, but it is one of our targets on the way home. What particular day depends on a lot of things (how long we stay with Gail's sister, how long it takes us to "do" the Aerospace Museum, etc.) but...

Forward CG Experience by Jay Honeck
Recently we flew with a friend who weighs over 320 pounds. With he and I in the front seat, and just Mary in the back, we were at the very forward limits of the allowable CG. Thanks to the Pathfinder's 1400 pound useful load, however, we were still 250 pounds under gross, even with full tanks...

Piper nosewheel steering linkage by Jeremy Lew
I have heard differing accounts of whether the rudder pedals turn Piper nosewheels when they are not on the ground. I know Cessnas have some sort of cam arrangement which disengages the steering mechanism when weight is taken off of the nosewheel, but there's nothing definitive about this...
