Track, Bearing, Course, Heading by [email protected]
Hello, I'm sure I should know the difference between all of these... but it kinda starts to blur together. I'm sure there are others on here who'd like a refresher. Anyone out there want to explain the differences to us? -dr

best IFR configurations/power settings for Cessna TR182 by [email protected]
I am trying to determine the best IFR configurations/power settings for my Cessna TR182. For example: APPROACH LEVEL GEAR UP: MP 17 in, RPM 2300, IAS 100, VS 0, Mix Rich, Carb Heat OFF, Flaps UP, Cowl flaps closed seems to work but I would like to hear from other 182 pilots: What approach level...

Unusual Vacuum system indication, please help explain. by Al
Hi Group. I had a trip Friday in a 1977 C-337G(pressurized). On the taxi out I noticed the suction gauge was pegged high. The AI erected ok, but the DG required many updates on the way to the run-up area. Pulling on to the runway, we corrected the DG again, by 30 degrees. We flew VFR to Boise, and...

Flying into Houston's Ellington Field by Whit
Hello, I'm a fairly low time instrument pilot, and I plan to fly my family from Omaha to Houston's Ellington Field in early September. I have never flown in the Houston area. What routing can I expect in a Piper Arrow for the trip, assuming good weather. I'll have an overnight stop in...

Flying through Canadian airspace by M
I'll take a few flights between Rochester, NY and the Detroit area this summer. Going through the Canadian airspace just seems so much shorter. I can go IFR. My questions is: * I don't need to deal with customs at all, as long as I don't stop at Canada, right? * Do I need to use the ICAO...

Lowrance AirMap 2000c update by Stephen Farris
There's a software update for the Lowrance AirMap 2000c (version 1.6.0) dated 5/26/06 on the Lowrance website. It fixes the E6B/wind calculation problem, among other things. http://www.lowrance.com/Software/Upgrades/upgrades.asp - Steve

IPC Preperation by Jeffrey
Greetings all; What do you recommend for preparation for an Instrument Proficiency Check? Is there any written or video material that is specifically geared for this, or is the original IFR training material better? Thanks for any insight! Jeffrey

Which Indicator for KLN-89b by N7936T
I bought a kln 89b. I have a MK12d driving a ID-824, a KX-170 driving a KI-214, and a yellow taged Arc IN-385a sitting on the self. I have a NAT multi pole relay, annunicator lights and switches. First choice would be to share the ID-824 between the MK12d and the 89b? If none of these will work,...

Accuracy of GPS in Garmin 430/530 by Will
Is there any way to have the Garmin 430/530 put its current display accuracy on the primary display as an ongoing statistic, based on the number of satellites in view? How, in general, do the Garmin units notify you of situations where GPS accuracy has been compromised to a level that makes...

I stumbled on this chart while preparing for an upcoming flight to Knoxville: http://www.naco.faa.gov/d-tpp/0604/00218HIL5L.PDF I see some unfamiliar graphics on this chart, namely the dotted lines in both the profile and plan views, and the candy-striping at the top and bottom of the page. I...

"Are you worried about all those non-green colors on the radar?" by Peter R.
I actually received this comment today from an FSS (US Flight service) specialist when I called for an IFR flight briefing for a flight from Boston back to Syracuse, NY, early this afternoon. The Bridgeport FSS specialist was not joking either. He went on to say that too often pilots express...

AUTOPILOT PROS & CONS by STICKMONKE
I got my IFR rating 7 months ago. I use the KAP140 autopilot a lot. From climb-out to MDA/DA. I find it really helps in my management of the plane and the IFR flight. I am interested in comments regarding the pros and cons of a heavy use/reliance on the autopilot.
