calendar TBO by Dan Luke
One finds many 20+ year old aircraft advertised with engine time = airframe time, both in the neighborhood of 1000-1600 hours. Now, it is my undersatanding that aircraft engines have a calendar TBO as well as a tach TBO. however, prices for these aircraft do not seem to reflect engines that are...

WAAS upgrade for your G1000? by Dan Luke
From the Cessna Pilots Ass'n avionics forum: "Just talked to Tom Engberg at Cessna about G1000 WAAS upgrade. He said that Cessna was waiting on Garmin to propose an upgrade to the pre 07 G1000s. He also said that it was going to take a change in the GIAs and that would be very expensive. This...

faster 182? by Dan Luke
Got a demo flight in a new Skylane Saturday morning. Very nice airplane. The G1000 stuff was a bit bewildering at first but otherwise it flew just like any good 182... ....except for one thing: it trued 147 knots! Non-turbo at 5,500 feet, 10 deg. C OAT, 135 KIAS. Wow! That is 10 knots...

dirty oil by Dan Luke
The oil in my Lyc. O-360 F1A6 is black only two hours after being changed. What could be causing this? Compressions were in the 70s at annual in September. -- Dan C172RG at BFM

Hangar rent in Fairhope, AL by Dan Luke
Construction is in progress for 16 new "T" hangars at 4R4 in Fairhope. After 6 years on the waiting list, I'm guaranteed to get one if I want it. Because of long lead times for structural components--particularly steel structural members--completion is not expected until December. Rent will be...

'87D gets a makeover - 3 by Dan Luke
The interior is finished. The work was done at Southern Avionics' new shop at Mobile Downtown Airport. http://tinyurl.com/gj5kt It took 3-1/2 weeks and, according to their manager, went 90% over their labor estimate. He is somewhat in shock about how long it took--it was their first small...

If there were 25 million active GA pilots... by Dan Luke
....in the USA instead of 400,000 or so: There would be GA airports *everywhere*. They would be like beehives on the day before Thanksgiving. You could rent a T hangar for less than the cost of a 1 br apartment. The accident rate would be about the same but the fatal accident rate would be lower...

Dirty oil, part II by Dan Luke[_2_]
Back in January, I posted my concern about the oil in my 172RG (Lyc. O-360) turning black just two or three hours after being changed. My regular mechanic said no to worry, the crud probably came from oil that didn't get drained from the oil cooler and associated plumbing. Still concerned, I...

Rejex by Dan Luke[_2_]
Been using this stuff for a month now on the new airplane. So far, Iike it. It goes on like any liquid car wax. You let it dry for 20 minutes, then wipe it off. It wipes off a bit more easily than regular wax haze. The instructions say to apply it when temp. is below 85 F. and let it cure 12...

RejeX update by Dan Luke[_2_]
The rep's at the RejeX booth said it is not necessary to wait the full 20 minutes to wipe it off as the directions state. Soon as it dries to a haze, wipe it off. Waiting longer makes it harder. They also said it may not work if applied over waxes or other coatings like Pledge. They also...
