John Bailey
http://www.nytimes.com/2003/10/28/opinion/28BROO.html
(quoting)
U.S. Air Force would lease 100 refueling tankers, modified Boeing
767's, from an entity controlled by the Boeing Corporation.
This whole mess started because the Air Force can't pay for new

F-16 max speed quetion by
Bjørnar Bolsøy
http://www.f16falcon.com/facts/f16_1.html
"In order to save weight and complexity, the geometry of the
intake was fixed, which limits the maximum speed of the F-16 to
below Mach 2."
If this is correct, it begs the question: what possible max speed
could the F-16 have reached if a movable inlet...

Mike
120-foot journey to immortality
Life: Wilbur and Orville Wright weren't born with wings, but that
didn't stop them from flying. Almost 100 years ago, the duo
accomplished what had seemed impossible: They solved the problem of
human mechanical flight.

The recent thread on "most beautiful things" has brought back many memories. We

in the number two slot in the high flight flying deputy lead. Way in the
distance I saw a tiny spot coming toward us As it came closer I saw...

Collimators by
buf3
The periscopic sextants we used on B-47s and B-52s had collimators.
You can google and see them. You can even buy a surplus sextant for
about $295.00.

Ain't Hollywood wonderful? by
ArtKramr
When we were stationed at Florennes Belgium a bunch of officers showed up one
day. They were a strange lookign lot. Kind of pudgy and out of shape
looking.Didn't look very military at all. In discussions they didn't seem to
know much about military flying but had higher rank than most of us;...

google lousy military/history search engine by
old hoodoo
I often see people complaining that they google and can't find stuff.
Yahoo has always been a reliable search engine for military/history stuff.
No one ever seems to gripe about yahoo the same way.

European military prowess by
Cub Driver
There was a post recently extolling the war-fighting ability of the
Germany army. Alas, it's gone from my screen.
However, I must point out the whatever the German army adopts in the
line of technological wonders, it will remain a joke at its present
size and budget. No doubt it could overwhelm...

San Francisco Fleet Week by
Vaughn
I happened to be passing through SF a week ago while the Blue Angles were
doing their thing. There is no airshow like that anywhere else! The Blues
manage to buzz around the downtown buildings several times during the show,
and even go beat up several other bay area communities. I know of no...
