Why Haven't Airbus A-320s Been Grounded? by Jay Honeck
After seven (?) incidents of landing gear malfunctions similar to the Jet Blue incident, why has the FAA not issued an emergency Airworthiness Directive on the Airbus A320? Or has an AD been issued, but without the requirement to "ground" them until they've been repaired? -- Jay Honeck Iowa City,...

Hi, Back from the wild west, a weekend spend watching flying horses (I kid you not!) flying is the correct term for their fastest gait. Have spoken to the lovely people at Shoreham airport and as its such a lovely day, they are happy to take me up flying this afternoon!!!!!!! So unless I chicken...

By 2030, commercial passengers will routinely fly in pilotlessplanes. by Bob Fry
Not my statement. See http://www.longbets.org/4 What sayeth the group wisdom? I think eventually there will be pilotless aircraft, the question is when.

Warrior cruise RPM settings by lardsoup
I rent a Warrior from a local FBO and usually set the RPMs to 2400 in cruise. It gets about 110kts at 2400. But that seems too slow. Heck I've been getting 110kts from one of their C152s. Rereading the POH I see that the cruise RPM settings can be 2500 or 2600. So I'm curious. Where do others...

FAA slowly coming unglued by NotPoliticallyCorrect
*Ah, and the big one comes even closer. When you run off experienced people and keep idiot managers this is what happens. As the FAA concentrates on feel good politics and women and minorities and homosexuals and GLOBE meetings and TWO conferences and Gay Pride celebrations and lowering standards...

accelerated training by Vern Torino
Can you give me your views on accelerated training for a PPL. I'm considering this as an alternative to training two days a week for eight months. The island in Hawaii where I'm at has one flight school, and at their rates it'll cost me upward of $8-$9K plus! (Money isn't my best asset.) I'm...

GA noise: another view by Bret Ludwig
Quiet, very quiet, light aircraft can be built. Maybe noise restrictions will kill off the bunch of winos at 652 Oliver Street and we will have better powerplants.

User Charges by Chris
This is an interesting article and pertinent in the debate over user charges. The NATS operating environment is very different to the FAA but it was interesting seeing where the risk was being taken re 9/11 type events. http://www.atwonline.com/magazine/article.html?articleID=1387

Headphone/mic adapter question by GEG
I'm a musician and I have some excellent noise reduction in-ear headphones. I would like to use these as my in-cockpit headphones. Generally - the regular over-the-head, squish-your-ear things are quite annoying to me. However - that leaves me with the issue of a mic and adapter to use these...

Crowded Pattern by Michael 182
Was flying pattern work after a long layoff yesterday. Very crowded, with five or six planes in or entering the pattern at Longmont (2V2), which has one runway 29-11. I always try and keep a mental picture of every plane approaching or in the pattern. Since I know the airport well, I can...

Fun with Flying: Right-Seat Time by Bob Fry
The weather's great this time of year in Northern California and almost perfect for flying. Nevertheless I was getting bored with the same $25 lunch trips which now were approaching $50. I wanted something different that might also cause me to learn something new. So last weekend I thought I'd...

Flying to Maryland Shore by Viperdoc
Does anyone have any experience flying across the Washingon ADIZ? I'm coming from the Midwest to the Eastern shore of Maryland next week, which requires crossing Washington's ADIZ and B airspace. I'll be under IFR, but I was wondering whether they sent IFR traffic around the big ADIZ or through?...

Aviation Events Calendar(s) -- Which One(s)? by Jay Honeck
So I've been suckered, er, drafted, er, "volunteered" to be an organizer of (what will now be) our annual "Big Kids Toy Show" fly-in extravaganza at the Iowa City Airport. It will be held May 19, 20, 21 of next year, and I want to get the dates out to all the various published aviation calendars. ...

Angel Flight Command Pilot...and an overall great flying day today by Jack Allison
I flew to Petaluma, CA today to complete my Angel Flight mission orientation. I'm now officially an Angel Flight Command Pilot. It's really a simple process but, for me, one that has been a goal for a couple of years now. Now all I need to do is have the stars align and I'll be able to fly my...
