DIGGING A DEEPER HOLE by

DIGGING A DEEPER HOLE
Whether we like it or not, the United States will be dependent on foreign
sources of oil for years to come. As each year passes we become more dependent
on foreign oil. The amount of oil we require is largely a function of the size
of our population. By the year 2050, census...

How safe is it, really? by
June
I need some information from people 'in the field'. My husband has
his private license and is just starting to work on his IFR for
recreational flying. He wants to buy into a plane partnership, saying
he will be saving money rather than renting.
We have 2 little girls. I worry for his safety as...

Christmas Gift Reccomendation Request by
Casey Wilson
Hey all,
My son-in-law is a PP-ASEL with Commercial. He's been out of the
cockpit for a couple years. Like most of us, sometimes raising the family
climbs to the top of the time and $$ priority list. Lately, his job
situation is allowing him to regain currency.
What are your suggestions for an...

I found this while browsing the TFR listings. The TFR isn't
unwarranted, in fact it sounds like a good idea, but a little advance
warning would be nice.

Austin, TX by
James Blakely
Hello cyber-friends:
I may be moving to the Austin, TX area in the near future and am looking for
information about the area. I've already looked up airport information at
AirNav.
Regarding this area, what is the general attitude toward GA? Are any of the
airports threatened to shut down due to...

Impossible to ditch in a field (almost) by
mindenpilot
I live out West, where there are hundreds of miles of empty space in every
direction. When flight planning, I often say, "I can ditch in that dry lake
bed, or that field, or if I have to, on that road."
In a couple of weeks, I'm travelling to North Carolina to visit my brother
for the holidays. ...

On this date, 64 years ago... by

On September 3rd, 1940, Pilot Officer John Gillespie Magee, Jr., wrote
his now famous poem "High Flight" while training with the RCAF. A
scant 3 months later, on December 11th, 1940, he was killed while
flying a Spitfire in the war-torn skies of England. He was 19 years
old.

How Many Nations Follow the FAA? by
Charles Talleyrand
In the US we have a set of aviation regulations all made up by the FAA.
In Canada they have a different set of rules all made up by Transport
Canada. They don't blindly follow the American FAA system.
When in Belize I walked through the capital to the general aviation airport
and talked to a...

Overnight stop near AUS & ELP by
ROBIN FLY
I am planning a flight from Los Angeles to New Orleans for some much needed R&R
during holidays. My wife does not like to fly more than two 4-hour legs a day,
so my plan is to fly from EMT to ELP for fuel & lunch than to AUS overnight.
Next morning we continue to NEW. For return trip, we will...

Xmas decorations and safety by
[email protected]
There was a thread not very long ago about the relative (un)safety
performance of light aircraft.
Some posters compared GA with motorcycles, cars etc etc
Now, last saturday there was a safety related article about Xmas
decorations in our newspaper.
It appears that every hour two to three US...

Digital Photos (was: Reno Suite...) by
RST Engineering
There was a comment on the "was" thread about .jpg being an inferior format
to a couple of other formats. So if my Kodak 1.3Mp camera only downloads in
..jpg, how do I fool it into downloading in some other uncompressed format?
According to the camera specifications, the actual file format is...

Florida Rentals by
Arnold Sten
Anyone here have any experience with rentals out of KLEE in Central
Florida. I'll be in that neck-of-the-woods between Christmas and New
Years and would like to get checked out and do some sightseeing. I'd
prefer to rent a C172. Any recommendations would be appreciated.
Thanks

F/A-18 "Shoots Down" A4 -- The Long Version by
Jay Honeck
For those who were intrigued by the mystery of how (and why) that F/A-18
accidentally "shot down" a photo-ship A4 Skyhawk (as shown in a short video
clip here a couple of weeks ago), here is a much longer version of the video
that shows several different angles, all the way to...

AOPA credit card --- WARNING. by
RS
If you have an AOPA/MBNA credit card then you should check the APR on your
last statements. MBNA has been raising the APR on AOPA cardholders, even if
you pay on time.
So check your credit card statements and call AOPA credit card services to
complain.
And also call MBNA to drop the rate back down.

406 Beacon Reviews by
Helen Woods
Anyone seen any good written reviews of the various 406 EPIRBs and PLBs
currently on the market?
What about exeperience? Looking for something small enough to keep on
one's person but that would have decent battery life in cold water.
Needs to be waterproof too.
