sticking Actylene regulator by
wright1902glider
Hello everyone,
I'm having an issue with my H-F acetylene torch rig. After nearly a
year of non-use, I fired it up over the weekend. Ox side was fine and
working exactly as expected. But the Act. regulator is having the
following issues:
1. With the regulator t-handle unscrewed completely, open...

Zen and the sticking RG-45 rod by
wright1902glider
It would seem that my last post drug out every old lurker that's ever
been on RAH (except Chuck... what's he up to these days?) Even BWB
sent me an unearthly vibe the other day.
But now that I have the torch, I've got a serious welding question.
Two actually. Number one is: anyone ever get...

Harry (finally) lights the torch! ...and etches some zinc off too! by
wright1902glider
Behold fellow aviators, for I have finally lighted that damned welding
torch that I got for Christmas...last year. Yep, bought a "b" tank and
an empty 40cu/ft oxy. tank off Ebay from Indiana Oxygen Co. Shipped
out next day and items were exactly as described. And free shipping!
Swapped it out at...

Flyin' (sky)Ferraris OR The media is catching on... by
wright1902glider
Looks like our old friend Paul is at it again. Reminds me a lot of the
contractor-guy in that movie "The Money Pit". (When will my house be
done? Oh, in about two weeks!) Right. And Jerry Lewis said that we
were only a few years away from a cure for MD. That was in 1977.
At least the reporter...

4130 can't be OA welded? by
wright1902glider
While browsing a bit more of that "good 'ole internet wizdom", I ran
accross this page:
http://www.ihpva.org/com/PracticalInnovations/materials.html
Its a human-powered vehicle website, but on this page, the author
seems to think that 4130 cro-mo steel can't be welded with an oxy-
acetylene...

Newbie question on Rate of Climb by
Wright1902Glider
LOL!
Correct me if I'm wrong, but anything that could climb at 60,000 per minute
would probably be powered by a big-ass rocket engine and piloted by someone
named Yeager, Crossfield, Glenn, etc... Excepting of course for Burt Rutan's
ship.
All of us poor-boy hang-glider pilots use electronic...

Suitable coating for spring-steel wire? by
Wright1902Glider
This will be an odd request since solid-strand spring steel wire hasn't been
used in a/c for nearly 80 years. Here goes:
I'm using 15ga. solid-strand spring steel wire in my Wright 1902 glider. It
was shipped with an oil-coating that held up for a few months. Problem is that
the oil did not...

You might want to also check out gyroplanes. NZ has a new one
that is top of the line. There's a few good websites about them:

What ever happened to the Subaru x-100 ? by
Wooduuuward
I know it was a car, but it looked like a jet trainer body, riding on three wheels.
It was around in 1981 or so. Had a Subaru twin cylinder engine rated at 100 mpg.

Chicago lawyers plane found in Toronto harbour by

I heard on the radio that a small plane from Chicago went missing in the fog
during a landing attempt at the Toronto City Centre Airport.
This morning I see in the newspaper that the plane and the pilot have been
located at the bottom of Lake Ontario. The plane was a Beechcraft that could

Metal fatigue in Lycoming engines limiting its TBO? by
Wolfgang
Is anyone aware of statistical or other data that would indicate what
percentage of engines make it well beyond the factory specified TBO,
and how much longer they can be flown safely? I worry about sudden
engine failure due to metal fatigue.
Many of the small Lyc. engines have a TBO of around...
