The State of the Union, Health care and more lies from the President by George Z. Bush
Oelewapper wrote: GWB: "A government-run health care system is the wrong prescription. By keeping costs under control, expanding access, and helping more Americans afford coverage, we will preserve the system of private medicine that makes America's health care the best in the world." -...

Radio - foul language by M. J. Powell
Another newsgroup has got on to the subject of foul language in war films, usually Army. I mentioned that the radio language during the Battle of Britain was so bad that High Command wanted to remove WAAFS from all rooms where the radio transmissions could be heard. This is not depicted in films...

F15E/1941 by Bob Urz
I know similar scenarios were made into a movie. But, if on Dec 1941 you had two strike eagles. Only two. Your sortie arrived at the Japanese fleet about the time 1/2 of the first wave was launched. Question 1# given the choice of any weaponry available for the F15, (even some that may not be...

Hubble plug to be pulled by John Carrier
60 minutes had a piece on Sean O'Keefe's decision to no longer support the Hubble Space Telescope. His reasoning: it's too risky. Supporting the space station is okay because if the shuttle is damaged and cannot reenter, they can always board the ISS and wait for a rescue mission. The...

Combat Ready Bush? by WaltBJ
Anyone know if G W Bush ever attained combat readiness in the F102? FWIW the ADC F102 program was 10 transition missions (no weapons system training) followed by 36 combat crew training missions. The last mission was a tac-eval check which qualified the stud as combat ready and to sit alert. If GW...

How accurate was B-26 bombing? by ArtKramr
Go to my website to the section titled, "MISSIONS AND RESULTS". Click on "The Bridge at Verberie" then" Wurzburg" to see how effective we were. Then peruse the other 10 strike photos to get a good idea of precision bombing at its best. The Bridge at Verberie is an example of putting a bomb in a...

The F-102 Delta Dagger (Was GWB as a Nat'l Guard Fighter Pilot threads.) by David E. Powell
OK. I have seen the debate over GWB as an F-102 pilot, so I was wondering about a couple of things. First, was the F-102 taken out of service in the early 1970s? I have to ask because as a kid I remember the Guard around here flying F-106s up to around 1990 or 1991 or so, and they were closely...

WWII FW190's, how good were they in dogfights? by [email protected]
Trying to fly these in the game IL2 is a waste of time, they are really crap. I can't believe this was realistic in comparison to other fighters of the time. Anyone know how good the real planes were and/or what their major weaknesses were?

What's a "Cloverleaf" Maneuver? by Stephen Harding
In a description of an alledged fight between American pilot named Lawrence in a P-38 versus Adolf Galland in a Ta-152 (or was that an FW 190D??), Lawrence mentions a "cloverleaf" maneuver that apparently positioned him well against Galland. From the context of the story, I gather it was...

Allison B-17 by Stephen Harding
Saw a photo yesterday of a WWII B-17 test aircraft powered with four Allison inline engines as opposed to the usual Wright Cyclones. Understand the modification added about 800 hp to the aircraft. Anyone know why the modification didn't go anywhere? The usual suspects? Too much disruption to...

Seeking information about a Capt. Albert Skolnick who flew 105's and later F-4s by JGB
in USAF in Nam around '65-'66. Tall, thin, dark skin, black hair. Supposed to have done around 108 missions. Very good at hand-wrestling too among other things. Old high school buddy; lost contact after 1970. I knew he flew for Delta Air Lines sometime afterwards.
