WxWorx gets a workout by Dan Luke
Yesterday was one of those sopping wet, unstable Gulf Coast spring days and I needed to get an Angel Flight couple from Mobile to Jennings, LA (3R7, west of Lafayette) in the afternoon. By the time we were ready to leave BFM at noon, the NEXRAD on our route looked like a cheap Hawaiian luau shirt...

regaining night currency but not alone by Teacherjh
Jack and Jill are both private pilots, neither is a CFI. Jack is out of night currency, Jill is current. Jack and Jill go flying at night under part 91, with Jack sitting in the left seat (I know it doesn't matter) and manipulating the controls, while Jill acts as PIC. 1) Can Jack log the time...

So I am in the hold at the BJC VOR for the VOR DME approach to 2v2. http://www.naco.faa.gov/d-tpp/0405/09041VDA.PDF At what point do I leave the hold and intercept the 345 radial? At the VOR? Or at the end of the outbound leg? Thx

The new Instrument Rating PTS by C J Campbell
There seems to be a lot of questions regarding the new instrument rating PTS. Although it was published in April, it does not take effect until October. The purpose of the new PTS is to incorporate advanced technology such as electronic flight displays and GPS into the program. The "Aircraft and...

Question for Fellow CFII's regarding Partial Panel Training by Brad Z
Out of curiousity, do any of you conduct partial panel training in actual instrument conditions? When I did my training, my instructor elected not to cover instruments in the soup. Do you do this? Why or why not? Brad Z.

encoding altimeter by mcfrog
Hi group I purchased a used encoder altimeter (Aero Mechanism TSO-C10b/TSO-C88 model 8142-M3H0) unfortunately the drawing describing the connections is damaged. Does anyone have such electrical connection schematic drawing (a copy of it) to send me so I could at last understand how to plug...

ILS or LOC Approach by Richard Kaplan
It seems that recently approach charts have appeared labeled "ILS or LOC" -- examples are at HAO and RMN. Is this a change? Why? In the past ILS approaches with an underlying LOC would still be titled "ILS".

Daytron clock? by Hankal
Daytron Clock. The stem from my clock fell off. Looking at the ends where the stem meets are tiny indentations like miniature gears. I have no idea how they fit together. See no break. What holds them together? Should I just use glue to join then together? Hank

STAR to neighboring airport by Viperdoc
Recently I was arriving from the southwest to my home base of UES (Waukesha, WI), and was given the Veena arrival. However, the Veena arrival is not listed as a STAR to Waukesha, but is under the section for Milwaukee, which is around 20 miles away (in the Jepp charts). Waukesha is not under the...

Cruise clearance by Hankal
How many times do you get a cruise clearance. Ever get "unable" Lets say the cloud layers are 4000 to 5200. You are cleared to 5000, but want to climb to 5300 or above. Is it possible to get a "cruise" clearance to stay above the layers? What about over class B?

NDB or GPS Rwy 33 EPM by Ron Rosenfeld
This approach is marked radar required, and there is no charted feeder route to the IAF. So one approaches via a random route under radar. ATC will not issue an approach clearance until within 15 miles of the NDB. In the past I was told this was due to their need to ensure the a/c was within the...

KRMN ILS 33- Interesting Approach by Brad Z
http://www.naco.faa.gov/d-tpp/0405/09743IL33.PDF I haven't come across an approach with two separate missed approach procedures before. Is this even remotely common? I think I'll add this to my instrument students' training regiment due to some additional interesting features- teardrop course...

I am contemplating a flight form Venice KVNC to Atlanta with a fuel stop at KLCQ Lake City, or close to it depending on fuel prices. Do not want to go into the big airport in Atlanta. Any one have comments on airports near Atlanta within Taxi cab distance. Thanks
