Inspecting your oil filter for debris is something that should be done at
every oil change.


Not necessarily.

Lab work will detect microscopic particles, and may miss big chunks.

The oil analysis for the engine that was in my plane (that was making metal
in little slivers the size of fingernails) came back "normal".

Cut 'em open, Hank. It take two minutes with the proper tool, and can save
you a bundle.
