George; Jay,
Try two one in each wing.
I have a Q4509 in the right wing aimed slightly down so it lights the
runway when on final and a 4509 in the left wing for taxiing. It is
aimed ahead with the tail down. Works great!

If you do this, be aware that the beam will reach further, but it will not be
as wide. Some people have problems with this. I put the halogen in my Maule and
don't like them much at all. They're great on short final, but don't illuminate
