iirc, there isn't a screw, just some plastic thing that only needs
a 90 degree turn to release the radio.

Exactly. There is a latching mechanism. Don't try to thread the
entire bolt out. All it needs is a 1/4 to 1/2 turn.

This is different than some other radios, which do have the bolt
threading into the rack.
